[Fix] Your Browser is Managed by Your Organization Message in Microsoft Edge
Recently a reader contacted me regarding “Your browser is managed by your organization” error message display issue in Microsoft Edge web browser. In his Windows 10 device, the Microsoft Edge browser was showing this error message on almost all built-in pages such as Settings, Extensions, etc as well as in the main Edge 3-dots Menu.
In this article, I’ll tell you what this error message means and how to disable or remove it from Microsoft Edge web browser.

PROBLEM SYMPTOM:
Sometimes your Microsoft Edge web browser might start showing “Your browser is managed by your organization” error message on various places.

Following screenshot shows the message banner displaying at the top on Edge Settings page:
Following screenshot shows the notification message showing as an option at the bottom of Edge main app menu:
PROBLEM REASON:
First of all, it’s not a problem. This behavior is by design. Microsoft Edge browser displays the “Managed by your organization” message if a policy has been applied to configure Edge functionality by the user, Administrator or an extension/add-on.
Actually similar to other web browsers, Microsoft Edge also comes with built-in policies support. Policies allow users and organization administrators to customize and setup Edge functionality and features. For example, you can restrict users from accessing features, installing extensions, etc.
If you click on the “Managed by your organization” option displaying in Edge main menu, it opens “edge://management/” page which shows following information:

Microsoft Edge is managed by your organization
If you use Microsoft Edge at school or work, it might be managed, or set up and maintained, by your organization. Your organization can set up or restrict certain features, install and block extensions, monitor activity, and control how you use it.
If Microsoft Edge is managed, you can view the policies that are set by your organization on the edge://policy page.
You can click on “edge://policy” link given on the details page to check which policies are currently enabled in your Microsoft Edge installation. The “edge://policy” page displays list of all policies which are currently implemented for Microsoft Edge as well as the Edge Updater as shown in following screenshot:
So when Microsoft Edge detects one or more policies applied in the operating system, it starts showing “Managed by your organization” message to notify user.
PROBLEM SOLUTION:
If you applied a policy intentionally, you can safely ignore the “Managed by your organization” message displaying in Edge. It’s just a notification.
If you didn’t apply any policy and want to get rid of the error message, you can follow steps given below to remove the error message from Edge browser:
All applied policies in Edge browser are present under following key in Registry Editor (regedit) in Windows operating system:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
OR
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
For example, following screenshot shows a policy applied in Microsoft Edge browser using above mentioned registry key:
You need to delete the Edge key and all existing policies will be removed from Edge and it’ll stop displaying the “Managed by your organization” message immediately.
To delete the key, open Registry Editor using regedit command in RUN dialog box, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\ key, select Edge key and press Delete key on your keyboard.
Once you delete Edge key from Registry Editor, open Microsoft Edge browser and you’ll no longer see the “Managed by your organization” error message in Edge.

what if you cant delete the “Edge” folder?
^^ Try to take ownership of the key:

I’ve done as you said, yet the message still is going and I can’t get rid of it.
This saved my life. Other websites didn’t include deleting keys in “HKEY_CURRENT_USER” and that was why I failed to remove the message. Both locations need to be deleted. Thank you so much 🙂
I’ve tried all the steps found here and in other google searches, but this problem keeps coming back. Does anyone know what is causing this and how we can stop that from happening, before we have to go in and reverse the changes through regedit or some other method?
FYI – I’ve had this happen on both Chrome and Edge, but not Firefox, so that’s what I’m using for now.
This did not work for me at first but I found a fix.
After following the steps above I closed and reopened edge and it wasn’t fixed.
I then tried going into task manager to end task on edge. After this, I reopened and it worked.
I think closing edge doesn’t actually end the program.
Seems like one of those open source ‘recover some privacy’ tools makes these changes to registry but there is no entry preventing custom DNS. So any policy blocks it?
I don’t see Edge in the regedit editor
