[Tip] Show or Hide Title bar in Vertical Tabs Mode in Microsoft Edge Web Browser

If you use Microsoft Edge web browser, you might be aware of its new feature “Vertical Tabs“. This new feature moves the tab bar to the left side of Microsoft Edge window. This way the browser shows all running tabs list in form of a vertical sidebar in left-side of the window.

This new mode is very useful if you have a widescreen display as it displays more information about the tabs in left sidebar.

You can turn on or enable Vertical Tabs mode by pressing Ctrl+Shift+, keys together or by right-clicking on the tab bar and selecting “Turn on Vertical Tabs” option from the tab context menu. You can also select Vertical Tabs option from new Tab Actions Menu button present at the left-side of Microsoft Edge tab bar.

When we activate Vertical Tabs mode in Microsoft Edge browser, it starts showing title bar at the top which some users may not like as it occupies some screen area.

In previous versions of Microsoft Edge web browser, we had to use a hidden secret preference/flag to hide or remove the title bar in Vertical Tabs mode which we shared at following link:

Now the good news is that Microsoft has added a direct option to show/hide title bar while using Vertical Tabs mode in newer versions of Microsoft Edge such as version 93 and later.

We can use the new option to hide the title bar while using Vertical Tabs mode in Edge easily and quickly. Following screenshot shows title bar removed or hidden in Vertical Tabs mode of Microsoft Edge:

METHOD 1: Hide Title bar Using Context Menu (Right-Click Menu)

While using Vertical Tabs mode in Edge, right-click on the title bar or tab bar and you’ll see a new option “Hide title bar” present in the context menu as shown in following screenshot:

Microsoft has also added a new option to Edge Settings page to set whether the browser should always show the title bar in Vertical Tabs mode or not.

1. Open Microsoft Edge browser and click on the 3-dots menu button present at the right-side of the toolbar. Now select Settings option from the main menu.

Alternatively, you can press ALT+F keys together to show Edge Menu and then press S key to open Settings page. You can also directly open Edge Settings page using edge://settings/ URL in address bar.

2. Now click on Appearance tab in left sidebar and in right-side pane, you’ll see Customize toolbar section.

To hide or remove the title bar in Vertical Tabs mode, enable or set the Hide title bar while in vertical tabs option to ON.
