Enable Hidden Secret Link Preview Feature in Google Chrome

This article will help you in enabling a hidden secret feature called “Link Preview” in Google Chrome web browser. This new feature will allow you to preview a link in a dedicated small window or pop-up before opening the linked page in Chrome.

Google Chrome 124.0 and later versions come with a secret feature called “Link Preview”. The feature is currently under development and is not enabled on public stable versions. Interested Chrome users can manually activate and enable the feature using the steps given in this article.

Once enabled, users can right-click on a hyperlink present on a web page and select “Preview Link” option from the context menu.

Chrome will open a small preview of the linked page in a small popup window so that the user can view the linked page in advance before actually navigating to the page.

Users can also instantly preview the link by pressing ALT key on the keyboard and hovering the mouse cursor over the link. The shortcut to preview a link can be customized or changed to Alt+click or long press the mouse button.

If you also want to try the new link preview feature in Chrome browser right now, following steps will help you:

STEP 1: Open Google Chrome web browser and type chrome://flags/ in address bar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

STEP 2: Now type preview in the “Search flags” box.

Look for following option in the results:

When enabled, Link Preview feature gets to be available to preview a linked page in a dedicated small window before navigating to the linked page. The feature can be triggered from a context menu item, or users’ actions. STEP 3: To activate and enable the upcoming link preview feature in Chrome, select Enabled from the drop-down box for the above mentioned option.

BONUS TIP: You can select which method do you want to use to preview a link. You can select any of following 3 methods:

Enabled Alt + Click – It allows you to press ALT key and click on the link to preview it.

Enabled Alt + Hover – It allows you to press ALT key and hover mouse cursor over the link to preview it.

Enabled Long Press – It allows you to click and hold on the link to preview it.

Enabled option uses the Alt + Hover method.

STEP 4: Google Chrome will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Google Chrome.

That’s it. You have successfully enabled link preview feature in your Chrome browser.

PS: In future, if you decide to disable the link preview feature in Chrome, select “Disabled” option from the drop-down box for the above mentioned option and restart the browser.
