ISSUE: August 2024 Security Update might Impact Linux Boot in Dual-Boot Setup Devices
Date: August 22, 2024
Details: After installing the August 2024 Windows security update, released August 13, 2024 (KB5041585), you might face issues with booting Linux if you have enabled the dual-boot setup for Windows and Linux in your device. Resulting from this issue, your device might fail to boot Linux and show the error message “Verifying shim SBAT data failed: Security Policy Violation. Something has gone seriously wrong: SBAT self-check failed: Security Policy Violation.”
The August 2024 Windows security update applies a Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT) setting to devices that run Windows to block old, vulnerable boot managers. This SBAT update will not be applied to devices where dual booting is detected. On some devices, the dual-boot detection did not detect some customized methods of dual-booting and applied the SBAT value when it should not have been applied.
Status: Mitigated
Workaround: If you haven’t finalized the installation of the August 2024 update with a reboot yet, you can use the below opt-out registry key, so your device doesn’t install this update. You will be able to delete the registry key if you want to install future SBAT updates later on.
reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecureBoot\SBAT /v OptOut /d 1 /t REG_DWORD

Since Windows 11 22H2 upgrade in HP Pavilion 13-bb0075, I had faced a critical issue of “No Hard Drive Install” which was emerging anytime a day either on the first boot or reboot, even after updating the BIOS.
However, now since updating OS with the cumulative update KB5017389 (OS Build 22621.608) dated September 30, 2022, no recurrence of the issue has been noticed.
Hence now I am unable to sense whether the issue was caused by Windows 11 22H2 upgrade or not?
Another Bug is Cascading Menus does not appear sometime. Some programs are PowerISO, 7-Zip, Winrar
After installing this update, my file explorer crashes anytime I try to open it. now I have to use a third party file explorer to access my files.
I have the same problem as teni, Windows explorer keeps crashing. Sometimes it will open and note that is working on it and then fail other times it just fails and you can tell Explorer restarted. I have tried upgrading to 22H2 twice with the same results thought a Net update was the issue but now ???? All updates are done, and all DELL updates are done and same problem. Roll it back, no problem, so I’ll stay on 21H2 for awhile until Microsoft figures it out. Funny, I have a old File Manager App/program and it works just fine with 22H2

Ever since updating to Windows 11 22H2, I can’t install any updates and keep receiving 0x8007023e install error. Is anyone facing this issue?
Try saving a document in word or excel by clicking “browse” – the entire folder structure is missing. I now have to save everything to my downloads folder than use windows file explorer to copy the file to where I want it saved.. Hard to believe someone thought this was a good idea.
