Why Call Recording is So Important in Smartphones?

Call recording is an important feature which must be present in all smartphones. Many times we want to record important phone calls to take notes later. Some of the examples when you may want to record calls are office meetings, customer care calls, etc. Many times when we receive calls from unknown numbers, we may want to record the call for safety purposes. The unknown call might be a spam or fraud call and if we record the phone call, we’ll have the proof for future use.

But call recording is not legal in many countries and regions and that’s why mobile phone manufacturers do not provide this essential feature to stay on safe side.

Apple has never provided call recording functionality in iPhone due to the same reason. We have discussed it in details in following article:

On the other hand, call recording was very easy on Google Android smartphones in past but recently Google also banned call recording apps on Play Store to improve users privacy and security. Still some smartphone companies such as Samsung, Xiaomi are providing native call recording facility in the Phone Dialer app.

Truecaller Now Allows iPhone and Android Users to Record Phone Calls

The good news is that Truecaller has added the call recording feature in its latest version. Truecaller is a popular and widely used caller ID app for Android smartphones and iPhones. It provides caller information on the calling screen to help users in identifying the incoming caller name in advance without receiving the call.

Truecaller was used to come with call recording functionality for Android users in past but later the feature was removed due to changes in Android OS API functionality. (More Info)

Now Truecaller has come with a new working solution to record calls on both iOS (Apple iPhone) as well as Android smartphones.

How to Record Phone Calls in Apple iPhone Using Truecaller

It’s the first time when Truecaller is bringing call recording functionality to iPhones. In past, a few 3rd party apps were available to record phone calls on iPhones but now we have a well known and trustworthy app to record phone calls on iPhones.

Truecaller on iPhones utilizes 3-way call conference or call merge feature to record calls. Apple doesn’t allow 3rd party apps to access microphone and Phone dialer app during phone calls to improve privacy and security, that’s why Truecaller or other apps can’t record the calls directly and are forced to use call merge feature as a workaround.

Call recording on iPhone is a premium feature and can be used if you have purchased the premium license. The feature has been made premium as it’ll require to call a special recording line at Truecaller servers to record the phone calls. In future, Truecaller might make the feature free to all iPhone users.

If you want to enable call recording feature in your iPhone, following steps will help you:

1. Download and install Truecaller app from App Store in your iPhone. If you are already using Truecaller in your phone, go to next step.

2. Open Truecaller app and you’ll see a new button “Record a Call” on the main window. Tap or click on the button.

3. It’ll open the call recording page in Truecaller app. You’ll see 2 tabs or sections at the top: Incoming call and Outgoing call.

To record an incoming call on your iPhone:

Answer the incoming call and then open Truecaller app. Tap on “Call the recording line” button given at the bottom of Incoming call section. It’ll make a call to its own recording line. Once the call is made, tap on “Merge Calls” option present on the calling screen and both your incoming call and recording line calls will be merged and the call will start recording on Truecaller’s recording line.

To record an outgoing call on your iPhone:

Tap on “Call the recording line” button given at the bottom of Outgoing call section. It’ll make a call to its own recording line. Once the call is made, tap on “Add Call+” option present on the calling screen and select a contact to dial. Once the call is made to the desired contact, tap on “Merge Calls” option present on the calling screen and both calls will be merged and the call will start recording on Truecaller’s recording line.

4. Once you disconnect the call, you’ll receive a push notification alert from Truecaller on your iPhone containing the recording file.

If you want to view or delete your recorded phone calls, tap on “All Recorded Calls” button present on Truecaller main window and you’ll see a list of all recorded phone calls.
