[Fix] Truecaller Replaced Your Smartphone’s Stock or Default Calling Screen

A few days back, I upgraded “Truecaller” app to new available version in one of my Google Android smartphones. I use Trucaller app in one Samsung Galaxy mobile phone to automatically detect spam calls and identify unknown and new numbers.

After updating Truecaller to latest version, when I received a call, I immediately noticed the new calling screen which was different from the stock or default calling screen of my Samsung smartphone. I tried to make a new call and again the phone displayed the same new calling screen different than the built-in calling screen which was showing in past.

I found that the new version of Truecaller installed a new full screen caller ID screen which automatically replaced the stock calling screen of my mobile phone with its own Truecaller calling screen.

Following screenshot shows the new calling screen installed by Truecaller app which displays in full screen now:

You can notice Truecaller is showing caller information along with other data such as spam call reports, etc inside its own calling screen.

In previous versions, Truecaller used to show a pop-up box or floating window containing caller name and other information over the stock or default calling screen of your smartphone.

Following screenshot shows the old Truecaller information pop-up box or floating window displaying over the calling screen:

I found that there are some issues and problems in this new full screen calling caller ID feature of Truecaller. It’s not compatible with the stock or native call recording feature of Android smartphones. After a few minutes of use, I realized that the automatic/native call recording feature of my Samsung Galaxy smartphone also stopped working. It seems it happened because the call recording feature is a part of Samsung’s dialer or calling screen (Phone app) and since Truecaller replaced the calling screen with its own screen, the call recording feature was automatically disabled or deactivated.

I didn’t like the new Truecaller calling screen (specially its look) and I started finding a way to disable it and restore my mobile phone’s stock calling screen. Unfortunately, Truecaller didn’t provide any setting or option to enable or disable its new calling screen.

Finally after some troubleshooting, I was able to deactivate Truecaller calling screen and restore my smartphone’s stock calling screen.

If you also use Truecaller app in your Android smartphone and you want to disable Truecaller calling screen and restore your mobile phone’s default stock calling screen, following steps will help you.

UPDATE: Newer versions of Truecaller now come with a built-in option to disable new full screen caller ID and restore your mobile phone’s stock calling screen and Truecaller’s classic floating caller ID popup window. Open Truecaller Settings, go to Caller ID option and turn off “Show full screen Caller ID” option.

There are 2 ways to disable Truecaller calling screen and restore your mobile phone’s stock calling screen. We’ll discuss both methods in details:

METHOD 1: Using Truecaller App Settings

1. Open your mobile phone Settings and go to Apps section.

2. Now scroll down and look for Truecaller app in the list.

3. Tap on Truecaller app and then look for Calling app setting as shown in following screenshot:

It would be set to Truecaller by default. That’s why Truecaller is showing its own calling screen when you make or receive calls.

4. Select Phone (System default) and go back or exit from Settings app.

PS: The option name might be different for different mobile phone brands.

That’s it. Now try to make a call and you’ll get the good old classic calling screen in your mobile phone.

METHOD 2: Using Default Apps Settings

1. Open your mobile phone Settings and go to Apps section.

2. Now tap on 3-dots menu present at the top-right corner and select Default apps option.
