[Tip] Always Show Full URLs (Including HTTPS and WWW) in Google Chrome Address bar

This article will help you in restoring HTTPS and WWW terms for website URLs in Google Chrome address bar. You can force Google Chrome to always show full URLs including HTTPS and WWW prefixes for all websites in its address bar as shown in following screenshot:

Since a few versions, Google Chrome started hiding HTTP, HTTPS and WWW terms for all websites URLs in the address bar. For example when you open our website in Google Chrome, it shows only askvg.com in the address bar where as the full URL of our website is https://www.askvg.com/. It happens with all websites and Google Chrome displays the domain name only in address bar.

Many users didn’t like this change. Initially Google Chrome team provided a hidden preference/flag to restore the HTTPS and WWW terms for websites URLs which we shared in following article:

But in Google Chrome 79 and later versions, the preference/flag was removed and stopped working.

Then we shared another working method to bring back HTTPS and WWW terms for websites URLs in Google Chrome which included installing an extension called “Suspicious Site Reporter” officially released by Google.

  1. What version of Chrome are you using? I don’t see this flag in 81.0.4044.138.

  2. Thanks.

I’ve just made the “new” changes in my Windows ver “83.0.4103.61 (Official Build) (64-bit)” and they seems to work fine.

  3. Please help me !!!
I’m using Windows 10 Pro version 1909 with Chrome version 83.0.4103.61 (Official Build) (64-bit). I tried ” chrome: // flags / ” several times in the address bar, I don’t have access to the site, I always received this answer:–This site can’t be reachedThe webpage at chrome://%20//%20flags might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
    ERR_INVALID_URL

  4. ^^ Now you don’t need to enable the flag. Just right-click inside the address bar and enable the option.
