How to Remove Memory Usage Info from Tab Hover Cards in Chrome

UPDATE: A new built-in toggle option has been added to the Settings page in newer versions of Google Chrome web browser to easily show or hide tab memory usage information on tab hover preview cards. The article has been updated to include the new working method.

This article will help you in disabling or removing “Memory Usage” tool-tip information from tab hover preview cards in Google Chrome web browser.

Memory Usage Information Display on Tab Hover Preview Cards in Google Chrome

In newer versions of Google Chrome, when you hover mouse cursor over an active or inactive tab, the web browser now displays tab memory usage information at the bottom of the tab hover cards as shown in following screenshot:

This new feature is a part of the Memory Saver (High Efficiency) mode present in Chrome which has been developed to save user’s computer memory and keep active tabs running smoothly.

Although this new little addition might be useful for some people but many people may not like this extra chip or information added to tab hover cards. I noticed that memory usage tool-tip causes some delay in showing the tab hover preview card on tabs.

Fortunately, Google Chrome team has provided a hidden secret preference/flag as well as a direct option which can be used to disable or remove the memory usage information from tab hover cards in Chrome browser.

If you also want to get rid of memory usage info from tab hover cards in Chrome web browser, following methods will help you:

METHOD 1: Show or Hide Memory Usage Info on Tab Hover Cards Using Chrome Settings

Following method will work in Google Chrome newer versions only:

STEP 1: Open Google Chrome web browser, click on 3-dots menu (Main Menu) and select Settings option. Alternatively, you can directly open the Settings page by typing chrome://settings/ in Chrome address bar.

STEP 2: In left-side pane, click on “Appearance” section or tab.

STEP 3: In right-side pane, you’ll see a new dedicated toggle option “Show tab memory usage” under Appearance -> Tab hover preview card section to show or hide tab memory usage information on tab hover preview cards in Chrome.

To hide or remove the memory usage information in tab hover card, set the toggle button to OFF and it’ll immediately remove the memory usage info from tab hover cards in your web browser.

If you decide to restore the tab memory usage info feature in Chrome, set the above mentioned toggle option to ON again.

METHOD 2: Disable Memory Usage Info on Tab Hover Cards Using Chrome Flags Page

Following method will work in all Google Chrome versions:

STEP 1. Open Google Chrome web browser and type chrome://flags/ in address bar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

STEP 2. Now type hovercards in the “Search flags” box.

Look for following option in the results:

Show memory usage in hovercards.

When enabled, memory usage for active tabs can be found in their hovercards. – Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, Fuchsia, Lacros

STEP 3. To disable or hide the memory usage information on tab hover cards in Chrome, select Disabled from the drop-down box for the above mentioned option.

STEP 4. Google Chrome will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Google Chrome.

That’s it. After restarting Chrome, you’ll no longer see memory usage info on tab hover cards.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore memory usage info in Chrome, select “Default” option from the drop-down box for the above mentioned option and restart the browser.
