Disable Microsoft Account Notifications in Windows 10 Settings and Start Menu

If you want to get rid of “Sign in to your Microsoft Account” and other similar account-related notifications from Settings homepage and Start Menu in your Windows 10 device, this article will help you.

Recently Microsoft released a new update for Windows 10 operating system which brings account-related notifications feature to Settings app and Start Menu. Initially the feature was exclusive to Windows 11 and now Microsoft has backported the same functionality to Windows 10.

Sign in to Your Microsoft Account Notification on Windows 10 Settings and Start Menu

After installation of the new update, whenever the user opens Settings app in Windows 10, the home page displays a notification banner at the top suggesting the user to switch to a Microsoft Account (MSA).

Following screenshot shows the account-related notification banner displaying under the main header on the homepage in Windows 10 Settings app:

The notification message contains following information:

Sign in to your Microsoft account

You’ll be able to back up your files and photos to keep them more secure.

The notification also contains a “Sign in now” button to assist the user in switching to an online account from the local account.

Similarly, new account-related notifications are now also displayed on Windows 10 Start Menu which promote Microsoft account and cloud backup services. The notifications are displayed inside the All Apps list as well as the user account flyout which appears when the user clicks on the profile or avatar icon.

Many users prefer to use a local offline account to sign in to Windows and these new kind of promotions and suggestions might start annoy them.

Fortunately, Microsoft has provided options to permanently disable and remove these new account-related notifications in Windows 10 Settings and Start Menu.

Disable Account Related Notifications in Windows 10 Settings App

To disable Microsoft Account notifications and other suggestions in Windows 10 Settings app, do as following:

STEP 1: Open Settings app from Start Menu or by pressing WIN+I keys together.

STEP 2: Now go to “Privacy -> General” page.

PS: Alternatively, You can directly launch this page using “ms-settings:privacy-general” command in RUN dialog box as mentioned here.

STEP 3: Now in right-side pane, look for following options:

Show me notifications in the Settings app. When off, required notifications are still shown.

Show me suggested content in the Settings app.

Disable both the options by turning off their toggle buttons.

It’ll remove account-related notifications and other suggestions from Windows 10 Settings app.

To disable Microsoft Account notifications and backup suggestions on Windows 10 Start Menu, do as following:

STEP 1: Open Windows 10 Settings app and go to “Personalization -> Start” page.

PS: Alternatively, You can directly launch this page using “ms-settings:personalization-start” command in RUN dialog box.

STEP 2: Now in right-side pane, look for following options:

Show account-related notifications. When off, required notifications are still shown.

Show suggestions occasionally in Start.

Disable both the options by turning off their toggle buttons.
