  • Now Windows will provide estimates for how long a restart for updates would take. When your PC is pending reboot for a quality update, you will be able to see estimates on your power menu under Start, in restart notifications, on the Windows Update Settings page and inside the Windows Update icon that shows up at the lower right of Taskbar. This feature is rolling out to a subset of Insiders in the Dev Channel at first so not everyone will see this right away.
  • Some Insiders will have the ability to right click on ‘Recommended’ on Start to refresh the content. This is rolling out to a subset of Insiders at first.

Windows 11 Build 10.0.22000.65 Changelog:

Build 22000.65 was the 2nd Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on July 08, 2021. This new build arrived via “CO_RELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • Start Menu now has a search box
  • Taskbar will now show across multiple monitors which can be enabled via Settings > Personalization > Taskbar.
  • Updated several system alert dialog boxes such as the alert for when the battery is running low on your laptop or when you change your display settings with the new Windows 11 visual design.
  • The ‘Power mode’ settings are now available on the Power & battery page in Settings.
  • Right clicking the desktop now directly has a Refresh option without needing to click “Show more options”.
  • Right clicking a .ps1 file in File Explorer now directly has a Run with PowerShell options without needing to click “Show more options”.
  • Available snap layouts when using smaller PCs in portrait orientation have been optimized for that posture. You can now choose to snap three apps on top of each other, instead of four quadrants.
  • GIF selections are now available for Windows Insiders in China via the emoji panel (WIN + .)
  • Right-clicking on the volume icon in the taskbar now includes an option to troubleshoot sound problems.

Build 22000.100 was the 4th Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on July 22, 2021. This new build arrived via “CO_RELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • Implementation of Chat from Microsoft Teams
  • The hidden icons flyout on the lower right of the Taskbar has been updated to match the new visuals of Windows 11.
  • Added the ability to quickly access Focus assist settings directly from Notification Center.
  • When a background activity from an app requires attention, the app will flash on the Taskbar to get your attention. In Windows 11, Microsoft has updated this design so that it still grabs your attention but with a calming treatment that minimizes the impact of unwarranted distractions. The subtle flashing eventually stops, and you will see a slightly red backplate and red pill under the app icon continuing to note a background activity needs your attention.
  • The touch keyboard icon in the Taskbar has been adjusted to be more consistent with the size of the other icons in the corner of the Taskbar.
  • The Taskbar calendar flyout will now fully collapse down when clicking the chevron in the top corner to give you more room for notifications.
  • When you select an app or movie in Microsoft Store, you might notice some animations that help you keep track of what you’re browsing.

  • The new Clock app for Windows 11 with Focus Sessions
  • Microsoft has been testing the ability to see estimates for how long a restart for updates would take in places like the power menu under Start, in restart notifications, on the Windows Update Settings page and inside the Windows Update icon that shows up at the lower right of Taskbar. Now the company is making a small adjustment for this feature so that it only shows on PCs with SSDs. If your PC has a standard HDD, you will no longer see estimates. Windows 11 Build 10.0.22449 Changelog:

Build 22449 was the 9th Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on September 03, 2021. This new build arrived via “RS_PRERELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • SMB compression behavior change
  • The boot screen now shows a progressive ring animation for loading the OS instead of an animated circle of dots. Microsoft is working to replace this animated circle of dots in other areas of the OS over time.
  • Right-clicking on the Bluetooth entry in Quick Settings and selecting Settings will now open the main Bluetooth & Devices page in Settings.
  • The Windows startup sound will no longer play after an unattended update (aka a scheduled Windows update when you are not at your PC).

  • When you have a file or folder selected in File Explorer, you can now use CTRL + Shift + C to copy the path to your clipboard.
  • Added an icon next to the volume slider in Quick Settings to help make the option for managing audio endpoints more discoverable.
  • Made some small adjustments to the contrast theme colors based on feedback, including making hyperlinks a little more distinct on hover when using the desert theme.
  • Updated the Windows Ease of Access folder in Start’s All apps list to now simply be called Accessibility.

Windows 11 Build 10.0.22478 Changelog:

Build 22478 was the 15th Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on October 14, 2021. This new build arrived via “RS_PRERELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • New Fluent Emoji
  • Updated version of the Korean IME
  • When your laptop is closed, it’s now possible to login to your PC using Facial Recognition (Windows Hello) on a connected external monitor if it has a camera attached that supports it.
  • Change to the underlying indexer platform to help improve overall reliability and database size, which should help reduce disk space usage on the system – particularly in cases where users had very large Outlook mailboxes.
  • Scrolling your mouse wheel on the volume icon in the Taskbar will now change the current volume level.

  • Added support for Discovery of Designated Resolvers which allows Windows to discover encrypted DNS configuration from a DNS resolver known only by its IP address.

  • You can now easily mute and unmute your microphone directly using the microphone icon present in taskbar during a Microsoft Teams call.

Build 22504 was the 20th Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on November 17, 2021. This new build arrived via “RS_PRERELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • Expanded the 13 themes for the touch keyboard to now apply to other input experiences, including IMEs, the emoji panel, and voice typing. Also available for all themed experiences is the theme engine that allows you to create a fully customized theme including background images. You can find all this under the new “Text Input” section under Settings > Personalization.
  • Added the ability for personalized combinations of emoji based on face and skin tones of family members, couples with heart, kissing, and people holding hands. Just open the emoji panel (WIN + . ) and try these combinations out by typing the following in the search box: family, couple, holding hands, or kissing.
  • You can now use the WIN + Alt + K keyboard shortcut to toggle the new mute icon in the Taskbar when it’s showing.
  • Making emoji search in Portuguese and Polish a little more flexible with keywords containing diacritics.
  • Introducing .NET Framework 4.8.1 our latest .NET Framework that will bring native ARM64 support for the .NET Framework runtime.
  • As Settings > System > Sound in Windows 11 shows a warning when microphone access has been restricted in your privacy settings, the notification to alert you about this removed.
  • Added support for the cancellation of daylight savings time for the Republic of Fiji for 2021.
  • Making a change so that going forward on new installs the touch indicator option will now be turned off by default under Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch. As part of this change, Microsoft has added a link to this Settings page from Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Touch and made it so that the press and hold visual is now always displayed regardless of the setting state.
  • Apps will now launch maximized by default when in the tablet posture on small devices (11-inch screens diagonal and under).

Windows 11 Build 10.0.22509 Changelog:

Build 22509 was the 21st Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on December 01, 2021. This new build arrived via “RS_PRERELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • Set of improvements to make browsing the web in Microsoft Edge with Narrator easier
  • You can now right-click on Start to quickly access Start settings and choose the “More pins” or “More recommendations” layout option to show an extra row of either pins or recommendations, respectively.
  • When a secondary monitor is connected, your clock and date will now also be displayed on the taskbars of the secondary monitor or monitors for glanceability.
  • For apps that send notifications for calls, reminders, or alarms that leverage Windows notifications in the OS, 3 high priority notifications will now be shown as stacked and shown at the same time. This means at any given time, you might see up to 4 notifications at the same time – 3 high priority notifications and one normal priority notification.
  • Moved the advanced sharing settings (such as Network discovery, File and printer sharing, and public folder sharing) to a new page in Settings app under Advanced Network Settings.
  • Made some updates to the device specific pages under Printers & Scanners in Settings to show more information about your printer or scanner directly in Settings when available.
  • Some of the entry points for network and devices settings in Control Panel will now redirect to the corresponding pages in Settings.
  • Added a new option to the Installed Apps page in Settings to sort the list from Name (Z to A), and accordingly, updated the previous “Alphabetically” option to now be called Name (A to Z).
  • Windows will now remember if you turn on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi while in airplane mode. Next time you use airplane mode, the radios will reflect your preference and stay on to make it easier to keep listening to headphones and remain connected while travelling.
  • Windows Sandbox now supports reboot inside of its virtualized environment (for example, if you were to click the Restart option under the Power button in Start).

Windows 11 Build 10.0.22518 Changelog:

Build 22518 was the 22nd Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on December 08, 2021. This new build arrived via “RS_PRERELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • New Spotlight collection feature: It’ll automatically change and apply new desktop wallpapers using pictures from around the world every day and will also show fun facts about each picture. To enable Spotlight collection feature, right-click on desktop and select “Personalize” option. On Personalization settings page, select “Background” option. Under “Personalize your background” dropdown box, select “Spotlight collection” option.
  • The Widgets entry point will now show on the left side of the taskbar with live weather content. You can also open the Widgets board by simply hovering over the entry point. For users who choose to align their taskbar, the Widgets entry point will be to the right of the Task view icon.
  • Voice Access: A new experience that enables everyone, including people with mobility disabilities, to control their PC and author text using their voice. You can find voice access on Settings -> Accessibility -> Speech page.
  • You can now install Windows Subsystem from Linux (WSL) from the Microsoft Store.
  • The ‘wsl.exe -install‘ command now installs WSL from the Microsoft Store by default. Microsoft has also added some additional arguments to ‘wsl.exe -install’ to make it easier to configure your install, such as ‘wsl -install -no-launch’ which will install a new WSL distro without immediately launching it. To see a full list of available commands you can run ‘wsl -help’. If you want to get started with the Store version right away and already have WSL installed just run ‘wsl -update’ to update immediately to the Store version.
  • The input switcher now features an acrylic background.
  • Updated the context menu in File Explorer to make these options top level: Install, Install certificate, Map network drive, Disconnect network drive, Disconnect.
  • Added a new extra-large candidate height option for Simplified Chinese IME users under Personalization -> Text Input in Settings.

Windows 11 Build 10.0.22523 Changelog:

Build 22523 was the 23rd Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on December 15, 2021. This new build arrived via “RS_PRERELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • When File Explorer is open to This PC, the add media server and (if appropriate) remove media server option is now available when you click the “…” in the command bar.

Build 22533 was the 25th Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on January 12, 2022. This new build arrived via “RS_PRERELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • Updated flyout design for the hardware indicators for brightness, volume, camera privacy, camera on/off and airplane mode, to align with Windows 11 design principles. These new flyouts will appear when you press the volume or brightness keys on your laptop and will honor light/dark mode.
  • You can now search for voice access from the taskbar and pin voice access to your taskbar or Start like other apps as well as turn it on/ off.
  • When you press WIN + X or right click the Start icon it will now say “Installed apps” in the menu instead of “Apps & Features”.

Windows 11 Build 10.0.22538 Changelog:

Build 22538 was the 26th Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on January 19, 2022. This new build arrived via “RS_PRERELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • Updates for voice access which allows users to control their PC with just voice.
  • In ALT + TAB, Task view, and Snap assist, the focus rectangle that shows what is selected will now use your chosen accent color on your PC.
  • The updated IMEs and touch keyboard designs will now show on the Lock screen and where you enter your account information such as username and password.
  • Improvements to the discoverability of certain input features in various areas across the OS.
  • You can access ncpa.cpl directly again.

Build 22557 was the 28th Insider Preview build of Windows 11 released to “Dev channel”. It was released on February 16, 2022. This new build arrived via new “NI_RELEASE” development branch. It came with following features and fixes:

  • The Mica material (transparency/blur effects) are used in more title bar surfaces. For example, the Run dialog now utilizes Mica.
  • Drag and drop is now supported on the Windows 11 taskbar.

  • Settings app will now show power saving recommendations to help reduce carbon emissions to those with Sleep and Screen off set to Never.

  • Updated the snap group visuals to include the desktop wallpaper to make it easier to differentiate your groups from normal windows. This will appear when using ALT + TAB, Task View, and in the taskbar previews.
  • ALT + TAB will now show as windowed for all Insiders running Build 22554 and up.
  • Updated the transition animation that shows going from one snapped window state to another.
  • Rotating your device between portrait and landscape orientation is now snappier and more responsive.
  • Reduced the number of notification sounds that play when you connect and disconnect docks and monitors.
  • It is now easier to move your cursor and windows between monitors, by letting your cursor jump over areas where it would previously get stuck. This behavior is controlled in settings with System > Display > Multiple displays > Ease cursor movement between displays.
  • Some small changes to the snapping options under System > Multitasking to help simplify them and make them easier to understand.

  • New tablet-optimized functionality introduced in Taskbar. The feature can be enabled/disabled by modifying “Automatically hide the taskbar when using your device as tablet” option present on “Settings -> Personalization -> Taskbar -> Taskbar behaviors” page.
  • Widgets dashboard now displays more dynamic content by combining the widgets and news feed.
  • New group policy added for managing Windows Update notifications so that you can turn off all Windows Update notifications quickly and easily. The new group policy is available under “Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update -> Manage end user experience -> Display options for update notifications” in Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc).
  • Search from Quick Access has been expanded to include content from your OneDrive, Downloads, and any indexed location.
  • Files in Quick Access without any local presence (for example, files shared to you from another OneDrive) now show thumbnails and work with OneDrive sharing.
  • Microsoft Edge tabs are now suggested as windows in snap assist. When a window is snapped, you will now see 3 of your most recent Edge tabs shown (by default) as suggestions. You can always control whether to show Microsoft Edge tabs and number of tabs shown when snapping or pressing ALT + TAB via “Settings -> System -> Multitasking” page.
  • Starting with this build, Windows Insiders can now use 37 new emoji characters in the emoji picker as part of Emoji 14.0. Some of the new emoji include “melting face”, “troll”, “coral”, “beans”, “playground slide”, and “mirror ball”.

  • The default homepage of File Explorer is now called Home. The name Quick access has been repurposed for the pinned/frequent folders section and Pinned files is now called Favorites to align with Office and OneDrive.
  • Recent and pinned files displayed in Home are now searchable using the search box in File Explorer even if they are not local files, so you can find Office files recently shared with you.
  • Microsoft Journal is now pinned by default on the Pen menu. If you don’t have the app installed, it will be installed from the Microsoft Store if chosen on the Pen menu.
  • If you press WIN + Z to open snap layouts, all the layouts will now show associated numbers, so you can quickly use the number keys to select the desired layout.
  • If “Memory integrity” feature is turned off in Windows Security -> Device Security -> Core Isolation, Windows 11 will now notify the user that this feature is currently turned off so that action can be taken for the user to turn it back on to make the device as secure as possible against malicious attacks.

  1. Windows 11 Build 10.0.22449 is REALLY messed up. it will keep changing the boot drive in your bios so you cannot load windows. ms states that they are no longer deploying it. and a fix is on its way. be careful! i thought i lost everything

  2. My new i9 12th gen pc i built. ddr5 ram, msi mobo works fine. but it wont install the latest dev preview. it just goes in loops. my bios is still on version 1.0

    however this makes me nervous. it the latest build known for this

    btw using an amd 6800 gpu. all latest drivers.
