You can see in the above image, the titlebar or header color, drop-down arrow, tabs design, lock icon in the address bar, icons and many UI elements have been changed or redesigned in the new UI. The new UI features rounded corners or edges around all elements and the lock icon has been replaced with a “Tune” icon in the address bar.

Along with the icons, tabs and toolbars, the main 3-dots menu has also changed in the new Chrome UI. The 3-dots menu now displays icons for all available options such as new tab, history, downloads, extensions, settings, etc. Few options have been renamed or moved to help users in finding those frequently used options quickly and easily.

PS: The new Chrome UI is known by various names. Google officially refers it as “Visual Refresh 2023”. If we search using Chrome Flags page, we find a few other names such as “Chrome Refresh 2023”, “WebUI Refresh 2023” and “CR 2023”.

  1. Unfortunately, this flags doesn’t revert the extremely ugly bookmark folder icons (black & white), the blurry fonts and the too much space needed entries in the bookmark folder drop down lists. How can Google decide to urge us user to such a unwanted change?

  2. Hi
As of March 22 2024, updated OS W10 22H2. I am unable to see the new icons (minimalistic) in the Bookmarks bar, very small text due to tiny Font, newly designed (ugly) tabs, unable moving online downloads to specific folders, and Incognito BLACK mode (very difficult for me to see any text information in tabs), is not contributing with any positive enhancements at all.
    Chrome “refresh” is disabled.
Edge browser is NOT active – at all.
Solution from Chrome on help with Disabling new UI in Chrome Version 123.0.6312.59 – (64 bits), is not working.
Is there a new Flag for 2024 Refresh that activates new UI updates in Chrome?
    Tomajda 🙂
