Disable Rounded Corners around Browser Frame in Microsoft Edge

If you want to get rid of the new rounded corners which are displayed around the whole browser frame in Microsoft Edge web browser, this article will help you in disabling the rounded corners and restoring classic squared browser frame in Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft was testing the new rounded corners UI feature in Edge since many months and now the company has started rolling out the new feature to all Edge users on Stable channel.

Following image shows a comparison of new rounded corners and old classic squared or flat corners in Microsoft Edge web browser:

As you can see in the above image, rounded corners are displayed around the webpage content in the main browser frame. Many Edge users might like the new UI change but some might find the new UI change annoying and distracting.

I received many emails from readers regarding this new UI change in Microsoft Edge. They all wanted to remove the new rounded corners and bring back the flat or squared corners in their browser.

If you also want to disable the new rounded corners in Edge, here is a good news. Microsoft allows users to completely remove the rounded corners feature from Edge using a built-in option as well as a hidden secret preference/flag.

Following methods will help you in disabling rounded corners and enabling classic squared corners in Microsoft Edge web browser:

METHOD 1: Disable Rounded Corners Using Microsoft Edge Settings

Microsoft has provided a built-in option on Edge Settings page to quickly turn on/off the new rounded corners option in the web browser. You can easily enable or disable the rounded corners in your web browser as mentioned in following steps:

STEP 1: Click on the 3-dots menu button present at the right-side of the toolbar and select Settings option from the main menu. Alternatively, you can directly open Edge Settings page using edge://settings/ URL in address bar.

STEP 2: Now go to Appearance tab and in right-side pane, scroll down and look for following toggle option:

Try the new look and feel of Microsoft Edge

Just set the toggle option to OFF i.e. disable the toggle button to disable rounded corners. Edge will require a restart to apply changes.

After restarting the browser, you’ll get back the classic squared corners around browser frame.

PS: In future, if you want to enable the new rounded corners feature again, enable the above mentioned toggle option.

METHOD 2: Disable Rounded Corners Using Microsoft Edge Flags Page

There is also a hidden secret preference/flag available to enable or disable the new rounded corners UI feature in Microsoft Edge. You can modify this secret preference to disable rounded corners in Edge using following steps:

STEP 1: Open Microsoft Edge web browser and type edge://flags/ in address bar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

STEP 2: Now type rounded in the “Search flags” box.

Look for following option on the page:

Microsoft Edge rounded corners

Enables rounded tabs, rounded corners around browser frames that bring visual separation – Mac, Windows, Linux

STEP 3: To disable rounded corners and enable squared corners in Edge, select Disabled from the drop-down box for the above mentioned option.

STEP 4: Microsoft Edge will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Restart” button to restart Microsoft Edge.

After restarting Edge, you’ll no longer see rounded corners around browser frame.

PS: If you decide to restore rounded corners in Edge, select Default or Enabled option from the drop-down box for above mentioned option on edge://flags page and restart the browser.

BONUS TIP: Enable New Visual Refresh 2023 UI in Microsoft Edge

Last year in June 2022, we posted a tutorial to activate and enable a brand new UI called “Visual Rejuv” or “Phoenix” in Microsoft Edge web browser. Actually Microsoft is working on a complete redesigned UI for Edge browser which will feature rounded tabs, rounded corners, support for Windows 11 visual effects (such as Mica effect, Acrylic effect) in menus, titlebar and toolbars and many other UI changes. The above mentioned rounded corners feature is a part of the upcoming UI.
