[Tip] Enable Hidden Secret “Developer Options” Menu in Chrome Settings in Mobile Phones

SUMMARY: This article will help you in activating or enabling a hidden secret “Developer Options” menu in Chrome Settings page in your mobile phone. If you are using Chrome app in your Android smartphone, you can reveal and access this secret menu in Chrome Settings using the trick given in this tutorial.

I’m not sure which version of Google Chrome web browser came first including this hidden secret “Developer Options” menu. I accidentally revealed this secret menu in latest Chrome version 74.0. May be older versions of Chrome also came with this secret option, I’m not sure.

While trying hidden secret Dark Mode feature in Chrome app, I found this cool trick. You may consider it as an Easter Egg in Chrome app. Google Chrome on Android comes with this secret “Developer Options” menu in advanced Settings page which is not visible by default but we can manually add it to Settings page using a very simple trick which we’ll discuss in this article.

If you also want to reveal and use this hidden secret “Developer Options” menu in Chrome Settings page, following steps will help you:

1. Open Chrome app in your mobile phone and tap on 3-dots menu and select Settings option. It’ll open Chrome Settings page.

2. Now scroll down to bottom and under “Advanced” section, tap on About Chrome option. It’ll open about page showing Chrome app version, operating system information and some legal information.

3. Now the important part comes. You need to quickly tap on Application version option a few times i.e. 5-6 times. Google Chrome will start showing x more taps to enable Developer options message.

Once you finish tapping a few times on the option, you’ll get message Developer options are now enabled.

4. Go back and you’ll find the new Developer options menu activated on Chrome Settings page. It’ll be present above About Chrome option.

Now you can enjoy browsing the new secret menu. Tap on Developer options and it’ll open the secret page listing Tracing option.

Tap on Tracing option and you’ll get following 3 options:

  • Default categories
  • Disabled-by-default categories
  • Tracing mode

You’ll also get a “Record trace” button and a message “Traces may contain user or site data related to the active browsing session, including incognito tabs”.

  • Default categories” option contains 117 options and all are enabled by default.
  • Disabled-by-default categories” option contains 71 options and all are unchecked by default.
  • Tracing mode” option is set to “Record until full” by default. You can change its value to “Record until full (large buffer)” or “Record continuously” as well by tapping on it.

If you click on “Record trace” button, Chrome will start recording traces and a notification will be shown in notification bar that Chrome trace is being recorded. You can tap on the notification and tap on “Stop Recording” to stop trace recording. The notification will show “Share Trace” link to share the trace with others.

BONUS TIP:

  1. I am using Windows 10 October Update(re-relased) 2018 64 bit, every time “command prompt window” flashing during sign-in and sign-out, sometimes during restart and then when I try to run an application as administrator, how to fix command prompt window flashing issue?

  2. I used take ownership I mean granted permission in regedit to set Ethernet, Wi-if, 3G and 4G as metered connection to stop “automatic windows update” only according to your provided instruction. I only used this method after completely format all drives using DISKPART command, After properly format, I reinstalled Windows and then installed antivirus, and I noticed this problem after turn off all unnecessary animation effects. And also all required driver softwares are installed.
