Fix Errors and Problems While Installing Microsoft Edge Web Browser

Microsoft has released new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge web browser to public. Now anyone can download and install the browser to try its new features. Microsoft Edge is based on Chromium so you’ll get similar features, functionality and UI which you get in Google Chrome web browser.

If you tried to download and install Microsoft Edge browser in your Windows device and you received error codes and error messages while installing the browser, this article will help you in troubleshooting the issues.

Today in this article, we’ll discuss about various error messages and problems which are faced by Windows users during Microsoft Edge browser installation. If you face any problem while installing Microsoft Edge in your computer, following information will help you in fixing the issue. Some of the information has been taken from Microsoft faq page.

Following are a few things which you should try first if you get any error message, error code while installing or updating Microsoft Edge browser in your computer:

Error 3 or 0x80040154 or We can’t install Microsoft Edge on this version of Windows:

At the moment Microsoft Edge is only available for Windows 10 operating system which means only Windows 10 is supported by Microsoft Edge web browser currently. So if you are trying to install it in any other version of Windows such as Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, etc, you’ll receive these error messages.

Very soon Microsoft will release Microsoft Edge for Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Mac OS and Windows 10 32-bit editions.

Error 3 or 0x80080005:

One or more required registry keys are missing in your computer. You’ll need to first uninstall Microsoft Edge from “Control Panel -> Programs and Features” page or using “Settings -> Apps -> Apps & features” page and then reinstall it.

Error 7 or 0x8020006F:

If you receive this error code, turn off or disable Game Mode feature in Windows and then install or update Microsoft Edge browser.

Error 403:

This error message might be displayed if you are using a VPN service. Try to disable the VPN and then retry to install Microsoft Edge in your computer.

Error 1603 or 0x00000643:

Download and run the official Microsoft Fix It program mentioned above to fix this issue.

Error 0x80070070:

This error code will occur if there is not enough space on your hard disk drive/partition to install Microsoft Edge browser. First reclaim some free disk space and then try to install Microsoft Edge again in your system.

HTTP Error 500 or Error 0x80010108 or 0x80040801 or 0x80042193 or 0x80042194 or 0x800421F4 or 0x800421F6 or 0x800421F7 or 0x800421F8 or 0x80072742 or 0x80072EE2 or 0x80072EE7 or 0x80072EFD or 0x80072EFE or 0x80040820 or Can’t connect to the Internet or an error occurred while checking for updates:

If any of these error messages displays on your screen, double-check your Internet connection and proxy settings. Try to use custom DNS settings. You can also try to reset network adapter to fix these error messages.

Error 0x8020006E or 0x80200059:

If your computer is a part of an organization, the administrator or some policies might be preventing installation of Microsoft Edge browser. You should contact the administrator.

Error 0x80200070:

This error message will display if there are very less CPU resources and RAM available in your device. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and end task of programs which are causing high CPU and RAM usage. You can also try to restart your computer.

Error 0x80200068 or 0x80200065 or 0x80200067:

These error messages will display when your device battery is low or your PC is set to power-saving mode. Plug-in your device or remove the power-saving mode.

There was a problem installing Microsoft Edge:

If you are trying to directly run Microsoft Edge installer from another web browser after downloading, you may get this error message. Open the Downloads folder containing the installer and then run it. You can also try to delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\Clients\{F3C4FE00-EFD5-403B-9569-398A20F1BA4A} key from Registry Editor (regedit) and then run the installer again.

  1. It is supposed to be x64. But it got iself installed in ‘Program Filesx86’ folder.

  2. I’m getting this “Error code: STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH”
