What’s New in Mozilla Firefox 110.0?

Mozilla Firefox 110.0 version was released on February 14, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Firefox now supports importing bookmarks, history and passwords from Opera, Opera GX and Vivaldi web browsers along with Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Safari.
  • On Windows, third-party modules (such as antivirus software, archiving software and other tools) can now be blocked from injecting themselves into Firefox, which can be helpful if they are causing crashes or other undesirable behavior. The about:third-party page gives users information about third-party modules that have been injected into Firefox.
  • Date, time, and datetime-local input fields can now be cleared with Cmd+Backspace and Cmd+Delete shortcut on macOS and Ctrl+Backspace and Ctrl+Delete on Windows and Linux.
  • GPU sandboxing has been enabled on Windows.
  • GPU-accelerated Canvas2D is enabled by default on macOS and Linux.
  • WebGL performance improvement on Windows, MacOS and Linux.
  • Enables overlay of hardware-decoded video with non-Intel GPUs on Windows 10/11, improving video playback performance and video scaling quality.
  • Colorways are no longer available in Firefox. You can still access your saved and active Colorways by selecting Add-ons and themes from the Firefox menu. Additionally, you can now install Colorways from all of the previous collections by visiting Colorways by Firefox on the Mozilla Add-ons website.

Mozilla Firefox 112.0 version was released on April 11, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • You can now right-click on password field and select “Reveal Password” option to show the password. (How-to Disable Guide)
  • You can now close tabs by middle-clicking items in the tab list panel in tab bar.
  • The old keyboard shortcut “(Cmd/Ctrl)+Shift+T” which was used to restore a closed tab, will now restore the previous session if there are no more closed tabs from the same session to re-open.
  • Ubuntu Linux users can now import their browser data from the Chromium Snap package. Currently, this will only work if Firefox is not also installed as a Snap package, but work is underway to address this.
  • Improvements to ETP Strict mode.
  • Enables overlay of software-decoded video on Intel GPUs in Windows.
  • Improves video down scaling quality and reduces GPU usage.
  • The deprecated U2F Javascript API is now disabled by default. The U2F protocol remains usable through the WebAuthn API. The U2F API can be re-enabled using the security.webauth.u2f preference on about:config page.

What’s New in Mozilla Firefox 113.0?

Mozilla Firefox 113.0 version was released on May 09, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Search terms kept in address bar: When you search for a word or text string using the address bar, Firefox will continue displaying the search term in the address bar instead of the webpage URL so that you can refine the search term while viewing your search results. Also, a new result menu has been added making it easier to remove history results and dismiss sponsored Firefox Suggest entries. (How-to Enable/Disable Search Terms)
  • The automatically generated passwords by Firefox now include special characters to provide users more secure passwords by default.
  • Private windows now block third-party cookies and storage of content trackers to better protect the user.
  • On Windows, the elastic over-scroll animation effect has been enabled by default. This feature shows a bouncing animation when scrolling past the edge of a scroll container using two-finger scrolling on the touchpad or scrolling on the touchscreen.
  • While importing bookmarks from Safari or a Chromium-based browser, the favicons for the bookmarks will now also be imported by default.
  • Firefox now supports files being drag-and-dropped directly from Microsoft Outlook.
  • Enhancements to Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode.
  • Security improvements to Windows GPU sandbox feature.
  • Redesigned accessibility engine to improve the speed, responsiveness, and stability of Firefox when used with screen readers, other accessibility software, East Asian input methods, enterprise single sign-on software and other applications which use accessibility frameworks to access information.
  • Support for AV1 image format files containing animations (AVIS), improving support for AVIF images across the web.
  • Users on macOS can now access the Services sub-menu directly from Firefox context menus.

Mozilla Firefox 114.0 version was released on June 06, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • New native or built-in Translations feature which is disabled by default and can be enabled using this guide.
  • Added UI to manage the DNS over HTTPS exception list. DNS over HTTPS settings are now part of the Privacy & Security section of the Settings page and allow the user to choose from all the supported modes.
  • Bookmarks can now be searched from the Bookmarks menu. The Bookmarks menu is accessible by adding the Bookmarks menu button to the toolbar.
  • It is now possible to reorder the extensions listed in the extensions panel.
  • Restrict searches to your local browsing history by selecting Search history from the History, Library or Application menu buttons.
  • Mac users can now capture video from their cameras in all supported native resolutions. This enables resolutions higher than 1280×720.
  • Users on macOS, Linux, and Windows 7 can now use FIDO2 / WebAuthn authenticators over USB. Some advanced features, such as fully passwordless logins, require a PIN to be set on the authenticator.

What’s New in Mozilla Firefox 115.0?

Mozilla Firefox 115.0 version was released on July 04, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Firefox 115 is the last version supported for Windows 7/8/8.1 and Apple macOS 10.12, 10.13 and 10.14 versions. (More Info)
  • Users may receive an error message “Some extensions are not allowed” on the extensions panel. It’s caused by a new back-end feature called “Quarantined Domains” to only allow some extensions monitored by Mozilla to run on specific websites for various reasons, including security concerns.   • On Linux, middle clicks on the new tab button will now open the xclipboard contents in the new tab. If the xclipboard content is a URL then that URL is opened, any other text is opened with your default search provider. (How-to Disable Guide)
  • A new preference devtools.f12_enabled is available that can be utilized to prevent the accidental use of the F12 key, which opens the DevTools toolbox. (How-to Guide)
  • Users migrating from another browser can now bring over payment methods saved in Chromium-based web browsers to Firefox.
  • The Tab Manager dropdown now features close buttons, so users can close tabs more quickly.
  • Refreshed and streamlined the user interface for importing data in from other browsers.
  • Undo and redo are now available in Password fields.
  • For users with a Firefox Colorways built-in theme, the theme will be automatically migrated to the same theme hosted on addons.mozilla.org for Firefox profiles that have disabled add-ons auto-updates. This will allow users to keep their Colorways theme when they are later removed from Firefox installer files.
  • Hardware video decoding is now enabled for Intel GPUs on Linux.
  • Users without platform support for H264 video decoding can now fallback to Cisco’s OpenH264 plugin for playback.
  • Windows Magnifier now follows the text cursor correctly when the Firefox title bar is visible.
  • Windows users on low-end/USB wifi drivers and with OS geolocation disabled can now approve geolocation on a case by case basis without causing system-wide network instability.

Mozilla Firefox 116.0 version was released on August 01, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • The keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+T or Command+Shift+T which can be used to reopen closed tabs, now also supports closed windows. It now reopens last closed tab or last closed window, in the order items were closed. If there aren’t any tabs or windows to reopen, this command restores the previous session.
  • Improvements to Sidebar switcher for keyboard users
  • When an update is available in English locales, users will now have access to the release notes in the update notification prompt in the form of a “Learn More” link.
  • It is now possible to copy any file from your operating system and paste it into Firefox.
  • The volume slider is now available in Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode.

Mozilla Firefox 117.0 version was released on August 29, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Credit card autofill support has been extended to users running Firefox in the IT, ES ,AT, BE, and PL locales.
  • macOS users can now control the tabability of controls and links using “Use the tab key to move focus between form controls and links” option on about:preferences page.
  • A new preference dom.event.contextmenu.shift_suppresses_event is available to prevent the context menu from appearing on sites which specify their own behavior when pressing Shift+right-click.
  • YouTube video lists now scroll correctly when navigating with a screen reader.
  • Firefox no longer shows its own screen sharing indicator on Wayland desktop environments. The system default sharing indicator will be used instead.

  • Web Audio in Firefox now uses the FDLIBM math library on all systems to improve anonymity with Fingerprint Protection.
  • The visibility of fonts to websites has been restricted to system fonts and language pack fonts to mitigate font fingerprinting in Private Browsing windows.
  • Video Effects and background blur are now available to Firefox users on Google Meet.
  • Firefox Suggest users (US-only at this time) will now be able to see browser add-on suggestions right in the address bar based on their keywords.

What’s New in Mozilla Firefox 119.0?

Mozilla Firefox 119.0 version was released on October 24, 2023. It came with following new features, changes, fixes and improvements:

  • Improvements to Firefox View (How-to Disable Guide)
  • Users can now edit PDF files and add images, text and drawings.
  • Recently closed tabs now persist between sessions that don’t have automatic session restore enabled. Manually restoring a previous session will continue to reopen any previously open tabs or windows.
  • Firefox can now import some of your extensions while migrating your data from Chrome.
  • Encrypted Client Hello (ECH) is now available to Firefox users, delivering a more private browsing experience. ECH extends the encryption used in TLS connections to cover more of the handshake and better protect sensitive fields.
