[Tip] Always Show or Hide Bookmarks Bar or Favorites Bar in Microsoft Edge

The new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge web browser shows Bookmarks Bar or Favorites Bar only on New Tab page. When you launch Microsoft Edge browser or open a new tab, it shows favorites bar but when you open a web page, it automatically hides the favorites bar.

Now there might be 3 types of people:

  • Who want to show bookmarks bar or favorites bar everywhere (new tab page as well as all web pages)
  • Who don’t want to show bookmarks bar or favorites bar anywhere (not even on new tab page)
  • Who are happy with default behavior i.e. show bookmarks bar or favorites bar only on new tab page

Today in this tutorial, we’ll tell you how to always show or hide bookmarks bar or favorites bar in Microsoft Edge web browser.

If you want to remove or hide bookmarks bar from new tab page or if you want to always show bookmarks bar on all tabs, the methods given in this guide will help you.

Following methods will allows you to permanently show or hide bookmarks bar or favorites bar in Microsoft Edge web browser:

METHOD 1: Using Keyboard Shortcut

You can press CTRL+SHIFT+B keys together to quickly show or hide bookmarks bar in Microsoft Edge browser. The browser will remember your choice. So you can press CTRL+SHIFT+B keys on new tab page to hide bookmarks bar or press the hotkey on other tabs to show bookmarks bar.

Pressing CTRL+SHIFT+B keys more than one time automatically toggles the bookmarks bar on or off.

METHOD 2: Right-click on Bookmarks Bar

When you open new tab page, you can right-click on bookmarks bar and select “Show favorites bar” option.

Now you can select any of following 3 options:

  • Always
  • Never
  • Only on new tabs

“Only on new tabs” is the default behavior. You can select Always or Never to show or hide bookmarks bar on all tabs including new tab page.

METHOD 3: Using Main Menu (3-Dots Menu)

Click on Main Menu (3-dots menu) button present at the top-right corner of the toolbar and select “Favorites” option.

Now select “Show favorites bar” option and set it to any of following 3 options:

  • Always
  • Never
  • Only on new tabs

“Only on new tabs” is the default behavior. You can select Always or Never to show or hide bookmarks bar on all tabs including new tab page.

METHOD 4: Using Microsoft Edge Settings Page

Click on Main Menu (3-dots menu) button present at the right-side of the toolbar and select Settings option. Alternatively, you can press ALT+F keys together to show Edge Menu and then press S key to open Settings page. You can also directly open Edge Settings page using edge://settings/ URL in address bar.

Now go to Appearance tab or section and look for “Show favorites bar” option.

By default it’s set to “Only on new tabs” which shows bookmarks bar only on new tab page.

You can select any of following 3 options from the drop-down list:

  • Always
  • Never
  • Only on new tabs

“Only on new tabs” is the default behavior. You can select Always or Never to show or hide bookmarks bar on all tabs including new tab page.

  1. you are using the term bookmarks for favorites. They are not the same. favorites appear across the top of the page. Bookmarks only appear on the right side as a pop-up by going to “Other favorites” folder icon and then selecting Bookmarks Menu. THIS is what I was looking for in the question on how to get Bookmarks to remain in view at all times. Like in other browsers such as firefox.
