[Tip] Disable Highlight Duplicate Tabs on Hover in Opera Browser

New versions of Opera web browser come with this new feature which is called “highlight duplicate tabs on hover“. Imagine you have opened several tabs in your Opera browser and one or more tabs are same i.e. contain same web page address or URL. You hover your mouse cursor over a tab in tab bar and if one or more inactive tabs have same web address, Opera will highlight the duplicate tabs automatically.

This new feature has been introduced to help users in easily finding and removing duplicate or redundant tabs.

If you don’t like this new functionality and this automatic highlighting feature annoys you, there is a hidden preference/flag to disable this feature.

Following steps will help you in turning off automatic highlight duplicate tabs on hover feature in Opera web browser:

1. Launch Opera web browser and type opera://flags in addressbar and press Enter. It’ll open the hidden secret advanced configuration page called “Experiments”.

2. Now click inside “Search flags” text box and type duplicate. It’ll show following option in the result:

When hovering a tab, display any inactive tab in the same window and workspace which has the same address as the hovered tab in hover state – Mac, Windows, Linux

3. To deactivate and disable duplicate tab highlight feature in Opera browser, select “Disabled” from the drop-down box.

4. Opera will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Relaunch now” button to restart Opera.

That’s it. It’ll permanently and completely disable this feature and Opera will no longer highlight duplicate tabs on mouse hover.
