[YouTube Tips] How to Enable New Dark Theme Mode or Restore Old Interface

Since a few months, YouTube was working on a new design i.e. user interface and it was available to some selected YouTube users for testing purposes. Now YouTube has launched the new design for all users.

The new “Material Design” provides clean and refreshing UI to all YouTube users. It highlights important parts of the page and makes YouTube easier to use. You’ll also notice the new YouTube logo on top-left corner of the page.

New design also comes with an awesome “Dark Theme” mode (or Night Mode) which turns the background dark on all YouTube pages. Dark or black theme lovers will definitely love the new dark theme mode.

If you are a YouTube user and didn’t get the new UI, you can go to following link and activate the new design:

Get New Material Design on YouTube

Click on “Go to YouTube” button and it’ll enable the new user interface for your YouTube account.

To enable the new “Dark Theme” mode, you’ll need to click on your user account icon given at the top-right corner and then click on “Dark Theme” option from the menu:

It’ll show you a message that “Dark theme turns the light surfaces of the page dark, creating an experience ideal for night. Try it out! Your Dark Theme setting will apply to this browser only”.

Click on the “Activate Dark Theme” toggle button to turn it ON. That’s it. It’ll immediately apply the dark theme interface on all YouTube pages.

If you are not comfortable with the new design and want to restore the old classic user interface in YouTube, you can do that too. Google has provided an option to get the old design back for interested people.

Again click on your user account icon given at the top-right corner and then click on “Restore Old YouTube” option from the menu. It’ll show you a popup asking the reason behind leaving the new design. Select any option and click on Submit button.

It’ll restore the previous classic design on your account.

In future if you want to enable the new material design again on your account, go to the above mentioned link and get back the new design.
