[Tip] Take Webpage Screenshot Option Removed from Addressbar in Mozilla Firefox

This tutorial will help you in learning how to take a screenshot of a webpage in Mozilla Firefox web browser if “Take a screenshot” option is missing or not available in Page Actions menu of address bar.

If you upgraded to recently released Firefox 88.0 version, you might have noticed that “Take a screenshot” option no longer appears when you click on Page Actions (3-dots) menu present at the right-side end of the address bar.

In older versions of Firefox, there was an extra option “Take a screenshot” present in Page Actions list in address bar which allowed users to take the current webpage screenshot. Following screenshot shows the “Take a screenshot” option available in Firefox addressbar:

[Tip] How to Use “Take a Screenshot” Feature in Mozilla Firefox

In newer versions of Firefox (88 and later), Mozilla team has removed “Take a screenshot” option from address bar page actions menu, that’s why if you click on Page actions menu, you’ll not find the screenshot option.

Firefox users are now asking several questions such as how to take webpage screenshots? Why Mozilla removed “Take a screenshot” option from addressbar? How to restore the missing screenshot option to addressbar? etc.

Actually Mozilla team decided to remove the screenshot option to prepare for the upcoming Firefox redesign labelled as “Proton“. Also very less people were using the option. To keep the menu minimal and compact, “Take a screenshot” option was deleted from the menu.

Don’t worry! Mozilla team has not removed the screenshot functionality. The page screenshot option is still present in Firefox. Only the location of the option has been changed.

Mozilla team has removed the “Take Screenshot” option from addressbar but the option is available in page context menu.

To take a webpage screenshot, just right-click on the page and you’ll get “Take Screenshot” option available in the context menu as shown in following screenshot:

So you see the option is still there, only the location has been changed. In my opinion, right-click menu location is better and easy to access compared to the addressbar page actions menu.

BONUS TIP: Keyboard Shortcut to Direct Access Screenshot Feature in Firefox:

Did you know you can also launch “Take Screenshot” feature in Firefox directly by pressing Ctrl+Shift+S keys together anytime? Just press the key combination and Firefox will immediately open page screenshot feature. This is the quickest and easiest way to access Screenshot feature in Mozilla Firefox web browser.

TIP: Add Page Screenshot Button to Firefox Toolbar:

You can also add Screenshot button to Firefox toolbar but unfortunately the added button was grayed out (disabled) for me. You can try to add Screenshot button using following steps:

1. Right-click on the toolbar or tab bar in Firefox and select “Customize Toolbar” option. It’ll open toolbar customize window. You can also select the customize toolbar option from Firefox main menu.

2. Now look in the toolbar customize window and you’ll find the Screenshot (scissors) icon present in the list.

3. Click and hold on the Screenshot item and drag-n-drop it to the toolbar at any desired location.

4. That’s it. Click on “Done” button. Congratulations. You have successfully added the missing Page Screenshot button back to Firefox toolbar.

Now you can use the new toolbar button anytime to take webpage screenshots.

In future, if you want to remove the Screenshot button from toolbar, right-click on the Screenshot button and select “Remove from Toolbar” option.

  1. None of the tips work. Nothing on right-click, missing that button in customize toolbar and ctrl+shift+s doesn´t work either. Ver 88.0 64-bit.

  2. Thank you so very much for this article!

I regularly used that tool several times a day, and was so bummed lose it without understanding what happened.

You’ve directly improved my standard of living with this info.

  3. Whoa, both Right-click or Ctrl+Shift+S is the best idea yet! I was about to die when “Take A Screenshot” disappeared from the menu.

  4. I have Firefox 92.0.1 and none of what you mentioned makes the screen capture option show up, I used to click on the right mouse button and take a screenshot, not anymore, also the “more tools” tab does not have an option for a screenshot selection.
