[Tip] Stop Google Chrome from Using Your Google Account to Automatic Sign into Browser

When Google Chrome version 69 was released, it came with a new feature called “Identity Consistency” or “Account Consistency“. This feature allowed Google Chrome to use your Google Account information to automatically sign into Chrome’s built-in local user account which is used to differentiate between multiple users and sync profile data.

Google Chrome comes with multiple user profile/account feature and you can create multiple user profiles so that different users can use Google Chrome differently. For example, you can create one user profile/account for your professional use and one for your personal use. You can use different Gmail IDs, Facebook IDs, etc in different user profiles. It’s a very useful feature.

But since the release of Google Chrome 69, whenever a user signed into a Google website such as Gmail, YouTube, Google+, etc, Google Chrome automatically signed the user into local user account present in Google Chrome using the same Google Account credentials.

[Fix] Google Chrome Automatically Signs into Browser When You Log into Gmail or Other Google Services

Many people don’t want to sign into Google Chrome’s local user account using their Google Account information but as soon as they sign into Gmail or other Google services, they were automatically signed into Chrome’s local user account. Same thing happened when a user signed into Chrome’s local user account using Gmail ID. The user was automatically logged into other Google services such as Gmail, etc in the browser.

So basically both online Google account and Chrome’s local user account were linked together. That’s what the use of new Identity Consistency feature.

Due to this feature, users were also unable to clear Google Account cookies using “Clear browsing data” window which can be accessed usingĀ Ctrl+Shift+Delete hotkey. It showed “You won’t be signed out of your Google Account” message and users were unable to sign out from their Google Accounts.

  1. Greyed out? Thats strange. Did you try to restart Chrome? Also if you disabled the flag “Identity consistency between browser and cookie jar” using chrome://flags, try to reset it to defaults.

  2. Same here that option is greyed out and the “Identity consistency between browser and cookie jar” is set to default but I am darn sure that when you posted this option for Chrome 69 that I went in and disabled it. Yet under Chrome 70 it shows a default.

  3. You guys can try to manually sign out from local user account in Chrome by clicking on user account picture in toolbar. Then check the option.

  4. Manually signing out from local user account in Chrome user account picture in toolbar works.

  5. #account-consistency option was better cause that still allowed backup of bookmarks to Google Account
