[Tip] No One Can Turn Off Wi-Fi, Mobile Data, Location When Your Mobile Phone is Locked

Today in this tutorial, I’m going to share a very useful tip for Google Android mobile phone users. It’ll help you in preventing others from turning off Wi-Fi, mobile data and location features in your mobile phone so that you can find or locate your mobile phone easily if it’s lost or stolen.

We use several mechanisms in our smartphones so that we can locate it and get it back if it’s lost or stolen. There are 3rd party apps and built-in features available which help users in such situations. We also posted a tutorial long time back to find your lost Android mobile phone:

Almost all methods include use of Wi-Fi or mobile data (2G/3G/4G) and GPS (location). To successfully locate a lost mobile phone, the Internet and GPS must be turned on in the smartphone. If the person who got your mobile phone, turns off Internet and GPS in your phone, it’ll be very hard or almost impossible for you to locate your phone.

Anyone can disable Wi-Fi, mobile data and location in mobile phones by tapping on their quick settings buttons (toggle buttons) which are accessible from notification panel or status bar shown at the top. Any person can swipe down on screen to access notification bar and then tap on Wi-Fi, mobile data and location icons to deactivate them.

Once the person turns these features off, you’ll be unable to locate the phone remotely.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could prevent/restrict others from turning off Wi-Fi, mobile data, location and other security features when our mobile phone is locked? If it happens, then no one will be able to disable these stuff and only we can turn on or off Internet and location in our mobile phone as only we know the lock code, PIN, password, pattern or fingerprint to unlock the mobile phone. Since others can’t turn off Internet and GPS in your phone, you’ll be able to locate it if it’s lost or stolen.

Today in this article, we’ll tell you a small tip which will allow you to block other people from turning on or off Wi-Fi, mobile data and location (GPS) in your mobile phone without your permission.

If you also want to enable this restriction in your mobile phone, following steps will help you:

PS: I have checked this method in Samsung smartphones but it should work in all Android mobile phones.

1. First of all open Settings in your mobile phone.

2. Now tap on Lock screen and security option.

The option name might be different in different brand mobile phones. Select the option where you set lock code, fingerprint, etc.

3. Now tap on Secure lock settings option.

It’ll ask for lock code, enter the correct lock code.

4. Now you’ll see following option:

Lock network and security

Network and security-related functions locked, and Wi-Fi and mobile data can’t be turned off while your phone is locked, making your phone easier to locate and protect if it’s lost or stolen

Enable this option by tapping on the toggle button and set it to ON.

That’s it. Now no other person can turn off Wi-Fi, mobile data, location and other network and security related features in your mobile phone when it’s locked.

BONUS TIP:

You can also enable “Auto factory reset” option present on the same page which will automatically reset your mobile phone to factory default settings after 15 incorrect attempts to unlock your phone. All data, apps, downloaded files, apps, settings will be erased. It might become useful if someone steals your mobile phone and tries to unlock it several times by guessing the lock code or pattern. Once everything is erased, your personal data, photos, videos will not be accessible to others.

  1. The options and settings shown in the description here do not appear on the Android phone here, which is a few years old; so am guessing these instructions only apply to later models. Would have been helpful if so stated, as wasted some time trying to figure it out, when never was possible from the start.

  2. i have turned this settings on but still it’s not working..what can i do?my phone is galaxy a9

  3. It won’t work for my Samsung A21S . It shows the lockscreen security but it only works to turn it on while its locked . I can only turn my data on while my screen is locked but I cannot turn it off.

  4. The new thing is to grab your phone while unlocked while you waiting for a Uber outside a club. They need to have location / data / power need a fingerprint even if unlocked.
