[Tip] Enable or Disable New Bookmarks Refresh UI in Chrome on Android
New versions of Google Chrome app on Android smartphones come with a brand new feature called “Bookmarks Refresh” and this article will help you in enabling or disabling this new feature.
Since a few months, Google Chrome team was working on a new refreshing UI for Bookmarks Manager in Chrome app for Android smartphones to change the look-n-feel of Bookmarks page in Chrome app. The good news is that now Chrome users can enable and enjoy the new redesigned Bookmarks Manager UI on their mobile phones.
The new refreshing UI comes with following 2 major changes in Chrome on Android:

Change no. 1: It moves the Bookmark (Star) icon from the top toolbar to options list in Chrome 3-dots menu as shown in following screenshot:
Now you get a dedicated Bookmark option in Main Menu instead of a small Star icon.
Change no. 2: It makes the bookmarks icons larger in Bookmarks Manager as shown in following screenshot:
Now the bookmarks items take more screen space which may not please some users.
The new Visual Refresh for Bookmarks Manager is not enabled by default in Chrome. Interested users need to manually activate it by modifying a hidden secret preference/flag on their smartphone. In coming months, Chrome team may start rolling out the new UI for Bookmarks in Chrome on all Android smartphones.

Thank you for this guide my chrome changed out of nowhere and I spent like 3 minutes looking for the bookmark star. Thank you for writing this helpful guide!
Just updated v105.0.5195.136 to v108.0.5359.79 only to find enormous/ undesirable bookmark icons AGAIN. Used the “flag” enable routine to revert to normal size icons when Chrome was v105. Tried to do it again to fix the problem after this morning’s update but “bookmarks refresh” flag is no longer seen. Can the flag be added or has Google made the monster icons the new norm that can’t be changed? Please have an alternate resolution!!!
I got the same problem as Enzo the bookmark refresh is gone and everything is worse please help
Also experiencing the same issue as Enzo. Trying to find a way to revert the update. 2nd time this has happened and Google has managed to remove the “bookmarks-refresh” option.
Happy to report that Google may have just corrected their mistake of taking away users’ ability to enable/disable the “bookmarks refresh” flag. Just updated Chrome to v109.0.5414.118 and it has been returned to normal. Maybe Google reads “AskVG” to see what Chrome users are actually talking about???
Thank you so much for this info!
I actually found it looking for a fix for the now missing bookmark “drag to sort” feature. Didn’t like the 110 version update so downloaded a v109.0.5414.117 apk which had that feature on an older phone.
A fix would be much appreciated!
