How to Disable Snap Layouts Flyout on Maximize Button in Windows 11

In Windows 11, if you hover over the Maximize button present in a program’s title bar using the mouse, a new flyout or pop-up appears containing thumbnails of several grids of rectangular shapes. This flyout is called Snap Layouts which allows users to arrange or organize program windows on their computer screen quickly and easily.

Following screenshot shows Snap Layouts flyout/pop-up appearing in Google Chrome window in a Windows 11 device:

To use Snap Layouts feature in Windows 11, you just need to hover the mouse cursor over the “Maximize/Restore” button present on a program window’s title bar. You can also press WIN+Z hotkey to use the feature using your keyboard. The Snap Layouts flyout will automatically appear on your computer screen. Now you can select any desired layout to arrange the program windows on your computer screen.

Although the Snap Layouts feature is very useful and might come handy in multitasking situations but sometimes you may find the automatic flyout annoying. Sometimes you want to move the mouse cursor near Close button and the Snap Layouts flyout appears on your screen because you accidentally hovered near the Maximize button. In such situations, the automatic appearing of Snap Layouts flyout might become irritating for you if you don’t want to use the feature.

Fortunately, Windows 11 allows users to disable or turn off Snap Layouts feature using Settings app.

If you also want to get rid of Snap Flyouts feature in Windows 11, following methods will help you:

Disable Snap Layouts Feature in Windows 11 Using Settings

This is the easiest way to disable or hide Snap Layouts flyout feature in Windows 11:

1. Open Settings app from Start Menu. Alternatively, you can press WIN+I keys together to open Settings directly.

2. Now keep the “System” section or tab selected in left-sidebar and in right-side pane, click on “Multitasking” section.

3. On the next page, you’ll see “Snap Windows” option which is set to ON by default.

If you want to completely disable and turn off entire Snap Layouts, Snap Groups, Snap Assist feature in Windows 11, you can set the Snap Windows option to OFF and it’ll immediately remove the Snap Layouts flyout from maximize button. It’ll also turn off the ability to arrange program windows using Snap Assistant.

If you don’t want to disable the entire Snap feature but want to disable the Snap Layouts flyout only, expand the Snap Windows option by clicking on the Down Arrow icon given next to the toggle button and uncheck “Show snap layouts when I hover over a window’s maximize button” option. It’ll disable Snap Layouts flyout in your Windows 11 device.

In future, if you decide to restore the feature, re-enable the above mentioned option.

Disable Snap Layouts Flyout in Windows 11 Using Registry Editor

Advanced users can also take help of Registry Editor to turn off Snap Layouts flyout feature in Windows 11:

1. Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type regedit and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

3. In right-side pane, look for EnableSnapAssistFlyout DWORD. If it’s not present, right-click on empty area and select New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value option. Set the new DWORD name as EnableSnapAssistFlyout

Set the DWORD value to 0 to disable Snap Layouts flyout.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore Snap Layouts feature in Windows 11, set the above mentioned DWORD value to 1.
