Microsoft 365 (Office) Insider Preview Build 17616.20002 (Version 2405) Released, Here is What’s New and Fixed

If you are using Insider Preview builds of Microsoft Office in your computer system, here is a good news for you.

Microsoft has released a new updated build of Office apps which come with new features, bug fixes and improvements.

The new Insider Preview build is available for download and install to users on Beta channel or Fast ring. You must be using Windows 11 or Windows 10 operating system in your device to receive this new Office Insider Preview build.

What is Microsoft 365 Insider (Office Insider) Preview Build?

Office Insider Preview build is a testing build to early access new features and functionality which will become a part of upcoming Office version. These build come with all Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Project, Publisher and Visio.

What’s New in Latest Microsoft 365 Insider (Office Insider) Preview Build?

• [PowerPoint] Improved experience in changing the source of a linked chart: In a situation where a presentation contains a linked chart, which is not only stored at a SharePoint location, but also synced to a local folder, when the user tries to change the chart source via “File -> Info -> Edit Links to File -> Change Source”, the initial location in the Change Source dialog now shows the current location of the linked chart, instead of the last used location. PowerPoint can now convert the local sync folder location to its corresponding SharePoint URL and preserve it in the file if the user chooses a chart in a local sync folder as the new chart source.
• [Word] Resolved an issue where text inside the track change card was not properly visible when using dark grey theme.
• Bug fixes and general improvements

Tip for Microsoft Outlook Users

The new Outlook versions come with a registry key that hides the “Try the new Outlook” toggle in titlebar. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General key in Registry Editor (regedit) and set HideNewOutlookToggle to 0 to show the toggle and 1 to hide the toggle.

Known Issues in Latest Microsoft 365 Insider (Office Insider) Preview Build:

• The team’s focus has been on primary app surfaces like the ribbon and document canvas. As a result, there will still be some color and style inconsistencies across different UI surfaces. The backstage (i.e. File menu) is not yet updated.
• There is currently a bug with animations in Office apps on Windows 11, which can make transitions look less polished.
• The Mica background effect has not yet been added to Office apps. It will be coming in a future update.
• The preview gallery for Data types and Shapes have a color bug in dark grey theme. Please expand the gallery to view contents.
• There is a bug where the document title appears misaligned within the title bar.

How to Install or Upgrade to New Microsoft 365 Insider (Office Insider) Preview Build?

Your existing Office Insider Preview build will be automatically upgraded to the new build if you are registered on Beta channel.
