PROBLEM SYMPTOM:

You are using the new Microsoft Edge web browser. Whenever you try to type something in the address bar (URL bar) or Search box, the web browser crashes. For example, you are trying to type a website URL or a search query in address bar or Search box present on New Tab page. As soon as you start typing, the browser crashes and closes.

So basically you are unable to type anything in address bar and search box in Microsoft Edge web browser.

If you open a website using bookmark or history, it works fine. The problem appears in address bar and search box only.

It’s a known issue and occurring if a user has set Google as default search engine in Microsoft Edge browser. If any other search engine is set as default, the crash problem doesn’t occur.

PROBLEM SOLUTION:

There are 2 solutions to fix the crashing issue. You can either set any other search engine as default or completely turn off search and site suggestions feature in Microsoft Edge which is causing this irritating crashing issue.

SOLUTION 1:

Set Bing as default search engine in Microsoft Edge using following steps:

1. Open Microsoft Edge browser and click on the 3-dots menu button present at the right-side of the toolbar. Now select Settings option from the main menu.

Alternatively, you can press ALT+F keys together to show Edge Menu and then press S key to open Settings page.
