[Tip] How to Disable / Enable Rounded Corners in Windows 11

Windows 11 comes with a new redesigned UI (User Interface) which displays rounded corners around all programs and apps windows. If you don’t like the new rounded corner UI and want to restore Windows 10 style squared corners in program windows, this article will help you.

Microsoft’s new operating system Windows 11 comes with a brand new UI called Fluent Design UI. This new UI features acrylic material to bring back Windows 7 style translucent blur and glass transparency effects in Windows 11. You’ll notice the transparency and blur effects everywhere in Windows 11 such as Start Menu, Taskbar, Action Center, immersive context menus, apps, etc.

Apart from these GUI changes, one major change is the introduction of round corners in all program windows frames. If you open a program or app in Windows 11, you’ll find that the edges or corners in the program window are now rounded as shown in following screenshot:

In Windows 10, the windows corners were squared. Now some Windows 11 users may not like the new rounded corners.

I have received emails from a few readers asking how to get rid of the rounded corners in Windows 11? Many Windows 11 users want to disable the rounded corners and enable Windows 10 style squared program windows.

Although Windows 11 doesn’t provide any option to disable rounded corners in program windows but there is a freeware available to do the task.

Following screenshot shows rounded corners disabled and squared corners back in Windows 11:

Win11DisableOrRestoreRoundedCorners” is a small portable program developed by valinet which helps Windows 11 users in disabling or enabling rounded corners in program windows quickly and easily using a single click.

This program patches or replaces 2 system files uDWM.dll and uDWM.pdb in order to restore Windows 10 style squared edges or corners in Windows 11 UI. Since DWM (Desktop Windows Manager) is the main system component responsible behind showing the UI to the end users, this little program modifies the DWM to force Windows 11 to use squared corners in its UI.

Using this small program is extremely easy. Just download the program’s EXE file and run it. It’ll ask for a working Internet connection because it requires to download symbol files for uDWM.dll file. It’ll take a few seconds in downloading the required files and you’ll get squared corners back in Windows 11.

In future, if you decide to re-enable rounded corners in Windows 11, re-run the program’s EXE file and it’ll restore default rounded corners UI in Windows 11.

You can download the program using following link:

BONUS TIP:

By default, Windows 11 displays new immersive context menus (right-click menus) which will not be affected by this tool. But you can restore classic context menus in Windows 11 with the help of following tutorial:

Troubleshooting Tips:

Sometimes Windows 11 users don’t get rounded corners in program windows. It happens if the required drivers are not installed for the graphics (gfx) card. If you are also facing this issue, make sure to download and install latest drivers for your graphics card either from your computer manufacturer website or using Windows Updates. Once the drivers are installed, you’ll get rounded corners in Windows 11.

  1. hey Vishal, is there a way to patch system files to reduce rounded corner like MicaForEveryone? i dont use MicaForEveryone because dont want to always run an app in background, also its very buggy and conflicts with other apps like open-shell and StartAllBack.

  2. ^^ A custom theme (msstyles) could help but theme creators like me have stopped working on themes for Windows 11.

  3. Hello sir ji
