[Tip] Always Show “Forward” Button on Microsoft Edge Toolbar

Newer versions of Microsoft Edge browser (v108 and later) do not show the “Forward” button on the toolbar. If you want to restore the missing “Forward” button on Microsoft Edge toolbar, this article will help you.

By default, Microsoft Edge version 108 and later do not display the “Forward” button on the toolbar. Only “Back” and “Reload/Refresh” buttons are displayed at the left-side of the toolbar. The “Forward” button is actually set to auto-hide mode and automatically appears when the user clicks on the “Back” button to go to the previous page.

This move has been taken to free up space on the toolbar and remove unnecessary buttons. The “Forward” button is only required when the user has navigated to a previous page by clicking on the “Back” button, so always showing the “Forward” button on the toolbar was unnecessary. Hence the “Forward” button now automatically appears or disappears as per the requirements.

Some users may not like this new behavior of “Forward” button. Many Edge users started complaining about the missing “Forward” button in the web browser. Fortunately, Microsoft has provided a new option in Microsoft Edge Settings page to restore the “Forward” button and always show the button on the toolbar.

If you also want to permanently add the “Forward” button on Microsoft Edge toolbar, following steps will help you:

1. Open Microsoft Edge browser and click on the 3-dots menu button present at the right-side of the toolbar. Now select Settings option from the main menu.

Alternatively, you can press ALT+F keys together to show Edge Menu and then press S key to open Settings page. You can also directly open Edge Settings page using edge://settings/ URL in address bar.

2. Now click on Appearance tab in left sidebar and in right-side pane, you’ll see Customize toolbar section.

Bonus Tip: There is another easy way to directly go to “Customize toolbar” section in Edge Settings page. Right-click on 3-Dots Edge Menu or any other toolbar button such as favorites, collections, etc and select “Customize toolbar” option. You can also use edge://settings/appearance#CustomizeToolbar command in Edge address bar to direct open the page.

3. Under “Customize Toolbar” section, you’ll see a new option “Forward Button” which is set to “Show automatically” by default.

To add the missing “Forward” button on Microsoft Edge toolbar, select Always Show option from the drop-down box given next to Forward Button option.

It’ll immediately restore the “Forward” button on Microsoft Edge toolbar and it’ll never disappear again from the toolbar.

PS: In future, if you want to restore “Forward” button auto-hide behavior, set the Forward Button option to Show automatically again.
