[Tip] Disable or Remove “Extensions” Menu Button from Microsoft Edge Toolbar

This article will help you in removing new Extensions menu button or icon from Microsoft Edge toolbar. It also contains a bonus tip at the end to completely disable Extensions menu button feature in Microsoft Edge.

If you upgraded or installed newer versions of Microsoft Edge web browser such as version 92 or later, you might have immediately noticed the new “Extensions” menu button added to Edge toolbar.

The new Extensions menu button shows a Jigsaw puzzle piece icon in Edge toolbar as shown in following screenshot:

The new Extensions menu button has been added to Microsoft Edge toolbar to help users in managing their extensions easily and quickly. Users can uninstall or remove existing installed extensions, find new extensions and launch main Extensions page quickly using the new Extensions menu button right from Microsoft Edge toolbar.

This Extensions menu button is also present in popular Google Chrome browser since long time and now the same feature has been implemented in Microsoft Edge browser.

If you don’t like the new Extensions button and find it unnecessary and wasting toolbar space, you can easily delete or remove the button using various methods given in this tutorial.

Microsoft allows users to hide or remove new Extensions button from Edge toolbar. In this article, we are going to share 3 methods to get rid of new Extensions menu button from Edge toolbar.

First 2 methods will allow you to hide or remove Extensions button from Edge toolbar and the third method is a bonus tip which will allow you to permanently and completely deactivate and disable new Extensions menu button feature in Microsoft Edge.

METHOD 1: Hide or Remove Extensions Menu Button Right from Toolbar

Open Microsoft Edge and right-click on Extensions Menu button in toolbar and select “Hide from toolbar” option from context menu.

It’ll immediately hide or delete the Extensions button from Edge toolbar.

METHOD 2: Hide or Remove Extensions Menu Button Using Edge Settings

Alternatively, you can remove the Extensions Menu button using Microsoft Edge Settings page as described in following steps:

1. Open Microsoft Edge browser and click on the 3-dots menu button present at the right-side of the toolbar. Now select Settings option from the main menu.

Alternatively, you can press ALT+F keys together to show Edge Menu and then press S key to open Settings page. You can also directly open Edge Settings page using edge://settings/ URL in address bar.

2. Now click on Appearance tab in left sidebar and in right-side pane, you’ll see Customize toolbar section.

To remove Extensions Menu button from Microsoft Edge toolbar, disable or set the Show Extensions button option to OFF.

It’ll immediately delete Extensions Menu button from Microsoft Edge toolbar.

PS: In future, if you want to restore Extensions Menu button in Microsoft Edge toolbar, enable the Show Extensions button option again.

METHOD 3: Completely Disable Extensions Menu Button Feature in Edge

This is a bonus tip for advanced users. You can use this method to completely turn off new Extensions menu button feature in Microsoft Edge browser.

Once you follow this method, it’ll permanently remove Extensions menu button from Edge toolbar. It’ll also remove the option to show/hide Extensions button from Microsoft Edge Settings page.

1. Right-click on Microsoft Edge shortcut on Desktop and select Properties option. If Microsoft Edge shortcut is pinned to Taskbar, right-click on it and again right-click on Microsoft Edge option present on the jumplist and select Properties option.

If you launch Microsoft Edge from Start Menu, copy and paste following string in RUN dialog box and press Enter key:

%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

It’ll open Programs folder in File Explorer which contains Microsoft Edge shortcut. Right-click on it and select Properties option.

2. Once you open Microsoft Edge properties box, append following string at the end of the text string present in Target field:

--disable-features=msExtensionsHub

Remember there must be a blank space between existing text string and the appended string.

3. Apply the changes and launch Microsoft Edge using the shortcut.

That’s it. Now you’ll no longer see Extensions menu button on Microsoft Edge toolbar.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore Extensions menu button in Microsoft Edge, delete the new extra text string from Target field in Microsoft Edge shortcut’s properties and save the changes.

    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --disable-features=msExtensionsHub

  2. As of the release of Edge 92 none of these previously known remedies No Longer Work. Why would you waste your & your readers time touting remedies that the Chromium developers and/or Microsoft have recently rendered useless. I totally don’t get it, this forcing of things on users that they don’t want. They are enjoying ruling the masses how ever they see fit.
