Windows 11 Subsystem for Android will be Deprecated on March 5, 2025

Microsoft has officially announced about the deprecation of Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) feature from Windows 11 operating system. WSA feature will no longer be available to use beginning March 05, 2025.

Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) was an exclusive feature introduced in Windows 11. WSA allowed users to download and install Android apps in Windows 11 and use them just like a native or regular Win32 software program.

With the help of Windows Subsystem for Android feature, Windows 11 users can install Google Android apps and games in their computer systems using Amazon Appstore.

Microsoft was regularly releasing monthly updates to maintain and improve WSA feature in Windows 11. New features and support for the latest Android version were the main priority of these frequent updates and suddenly Microsoft announced the discontinuation of WSA feature.

In a surprising move, Microsoft made following announcement at official WSA development blog:

Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore will no longer be available in the Microsoft Store after March 5, 2025.

Also the official Windows Subsystem for Android documentation page at Microsoft Learn website contains following confirmation about the deprecation of WSA feature:

Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA). As a result, the Amazon Appstore on Windows and all applications and games dependent on WSA will no longer be supported beginning March 5, 2025. Until then, technical support will remain available to customers.

Customers that have installed the Amazon Appstore or Android apps prior to March 5, 2024, will continue to have access to those apps through the deprecation date of March 5, 2025.

So basically following are the main points of the official announcement:

  • Windows Subsystem for Android feature in Windows 11 will be deprecated on March 5, 2025.
  • Amazon Appstore has been removed from Microsoft Store on March 5, 2024. Users will be unable to find it on Store.
  • Users who have previously installed Android apps and games from Amazon Appstore in their Windows 11 devices, will be able to use them but the official support will be discontinued starting March 5, 2025.
  • Existing apps will keep receiving updates and support from the developers till March 5, 2025.

So if you were using WSA feature to enjoy Android apps and games on Windows 11, you’ll need to find an alternative program.
