[Windows 10 Tip] Keep Action Center Always Opened and Showing on Screen

Recently an AskVG reader asked can we pin Action Center as a sidebar in Windows 10? Actually the reader wanted to always show Action Center on screen.

By default, when we open Action Center (also known as Notification Center) in Windows 10 by clicking on its icon present at the end of Taskbar or using WIN+A keyboard shortcut, it opens as a sidebar in right-side of the screen. But as soon as we click anywhere else on screen such as clicking on Desktop, opening Start Menu, opening any other program or pressing any other key, Action Center immediately closes and disappears from the screen.

There is no way to keep Action Center always opened and showing on screen. It’ll be very beneficial if we could pin Action Center as a sidebar so that we can check new notifications quickly as well as access quick actions tiles.

Fortunately, there is a registry tweak to force Action Center always opened and displaying on screen. Once we apply this tweak and open Action Center, it’ll remain opened and showing on screen even if we open other programs or click anywhere else.

Following screenshot shows Action Center pinned in Windows 10 even the focus is inside File Explorer:

You can see in above screenshot, we have right-clicked inside File Explorer window but still Action Center is showing on screen.

If you also want to force Action Center to always open and show on screen in Windows 10, following steps will help you:

1. Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type regedit and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Launcher

3. In right-side pane, create a new DWORD DisableLightDismiss and set its value to 1

That’s it. The changes are instant.

Now open Action Center and click anywhere else on screen or open any other program and you’ll notice Action Center will keep showing on screen and will be always visible.

PS: To close or hide Action Center, you’ll need to click on its icon present at the end of Taskbar or press WIN+A keys together.

To restore default behavior, delete the DWORD created in above steps.

  1. Excuse me, do you know how I could achieve this on Windows 11? Chrome notifications are inconsistent at sending alerts so I like to leave the panel open so that I don’t miss any.

    Thank you
