Try This Fix If Google is Not Syncing Contacts on Your Android Smartphone

If you are facing problems in syncing your Android smartphone contacts to Google server to access the same contacts on other mobile phones, this article contains an easy fix to solve this issue.

We all know that we can sing in using our Gmail ID in our Android smartphone to automatically sync our device contacts on Google server. It helps us in restoring the contacts easily on new smartphones as well as using the same contacts on multiple devices.

Recently I faced a very strange issue while trying to sync contacts in my Samsung Galaxy S series smartphone. I wanted to sync contacts between my Android smartphone and iPhone. I signed in using a Gmail ID in my Android smartphone and made sure that syncing was enabled in mobile phone settings. I signed into my iPhone using the same Gmail ID to access the same contacts list in iPhone. But iPhone was always showing 0 contacts.

When I checked the contacts sync status in my Android smartphone, I was shocked to see that it was not syncing any contact. I had 622 contacts in my phonebook but Google was unable to sync them.

The option to sync contacts was enabled in Contacts app as well as Google Account settings, still the sync was not working.

After a few minutes troubleshooting, I was able to fix the issue and the sync started working without any issue. Now I can access the same contacts list on both of my smartphones: Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhone.

There was only a single option which I had to enable to fix the contacts sync issue. Actually Google only syncs contacts stored in default format on user’s device. Some branded smartphones store contacts in a little bit modified format. Google doesn’t sync those contacts automatically and we need to tell Google to also sync those contacts by turning on an option which we are going to discuss below.

If you are also facing this issue and Google is not syncing contacts from your Android smartphone, following steps will help you:

1. Open Settings app in your Android smartphone.

5. Now you’ll see the next page is showing 0 contacts synced and there is another option present with the name “Also sync device contacts” which is turned off by default.

Tap on “Manage settings” option given below “Also sync device contacts” option.

6. Now enable “Automatically back up and sync device contacts” option by settings the toggle button given next to it to ON.

That’s it. Now Google will start syncing all contacts stored on your smartphone on its server and you can use the same contacts on other devices without any problem.
