[Tip] How to Remove or Customize 7-Zip Context Menu (Right-Click Menu) Options

There are many popular file archive and compression utilities available such as WinRAR, WinZip, etc. But most of these software are paid. Although they provide their trial versions to use but you need to purchase their full versions when the trial versions expire.

Among these popular file archivers, there is an absolutely free and open source file archive manager available for Windows operating system which is known as 7-Zip.

7-Zip is an excellent and free file archiver and compressor software for Windows which supports almost all popular packing/unpacking file formats such as zip, gzip, tar, wim, rar, 7z, etc.

When you install 7-Zip program in your computer, it adds its options to file/folder context menus (right-click menus) as shown in following screenshot:

You can see 7-Zip options such as open archive, extract files, test archive, compress and email, etc in the context menu when you right-click on a file or folder in Windows Explorer.

Recently an AskVG reader asked us how to remove these 7-Zip options from files and folders context menus? He wanted to use the software program but he didn’t like the context menu options. He wanted to cleanup the menu and get rid of 7-Zip options from the context menu.

If you also want to delete the 7-Zip options from context menu in Windows, this tutorial will help you. Today in this tutorial, we’ll tell you how to customize 7-Zip context menu options. You can remove them completely or change their appearance in context menu.

We’ll not take help of Registry Editor as 7-Zip already comes with built-in settings to remove or customize its context menu options.

Check out following simple steps to customize 7-Zip context menu options:

1. Right-click on 7-Zip program shortcut and select “Run as Administrator” option. It’ll launch 7-Zip in administrative mode.

2. Now click on Tools -> Options menu. It’ll open 7-Zip options window.

3. Now go to “7-Zip” tab and you’ll see several options to customize 7-Zip context menu options.

Remove 7-Zip Context Menu Options:

To remove 7-Zip options from files and folders context menu, uncheck following options:

  • Integrate 7-Zip to shell context menu
  • Integrate 7-Zip to shell context menu (32-bit)

Click on Apply and OK buttons to apply changes.

Now you can check by right-clicking on files and folders. You’ll no longer see 7-Zip options in context menu.

Customize 7-Zip Context Menu Options:

If you want to change 7-Zip context menu options appearance, you can change other available options.

If you uncheck “Cascaded context menu” option, all 7-Zip options will be displayed directly in context menu. They will not be grouped under “7-Zip” menu.

You can enable “Icons in context menu” option to show icons for all context menu options.

You can also add/remove options from 7-Zip context menu. Just check or uncheck desired items given under “Context menu items” section to add or remove them in 7-Zip context menu. For example, I always disable compress and email options from 7-Zip context menu as I never use them. You can also remove unwanted and unnecessary options from 7-Zip context menu using this method.

So you see customizing and removing 7-Zip context menu options is a very easy task. 7-Zip provides several options to change appearance of its context menu options.
