[Tip] Force Firefox to Always Use System Titlebar in Windows

Mozilla Firefox web browser uses its own modern titlebar in Windows operating system which doesn’t match the system-wide titlebar used by other software programs. If you want to disable Firefox modern titlebar and force Firefox to always use system titlebar, this article will help you.

There is a serious problem in Firefox default titlebar. The buttons in Firefox titlebar (minimize, maximize, close) are displayed very close to each other. On the other hand, the default system titlebar used by Windows Explorer and all other software applications displays the titlebar buttons with some extra gap.

The different positions of titlebar buttons in Firefox and other programs creates following problem:

Imagine a situation where you are using Firefox and other software programs in Windows and you want to minimize Firefox and a few other opened program windows.

You move the mouse cursor on “Minimize” button in Firefox titlebar and click on it to minimize Firefox window. Fine and now the problem occurs when you again click on the same place to minimize other program window. Instead of minimizing, the program window is restored on your computer screen because you accidentally clicked on the “Maximize/Restore” button in the titlebar. Why? Because the system titlebar used by all software programs displays the middle “Maximize/Restore” button at the same location where Firefox titlebar displays “Minimize” button.

The problem becomes very irritating when you want to minimize Firefox and some other programs windows in hurry and you end up in clicking on wrong button.

Following image will give you a better idea about the issue:

As you can see in the above screenshot, The “Minimize” button in Firefox titlebar is very close to the “Maximize/Restore” button in system titlebar of other program windows.

It happens because Firefox uses a combined tab bar and titlebar. Firefox displays all tabs in its own titlebar or you can say Firefox displays the titlebar buttons in the tab bar.

Fortunately, we can fix this issue by enabling the classic titlebar in Firefox and force Firefox to always use the Windows titlebar like other software programs. In this way, Firefox will use a dedicated and separate titlebar and will show the tabs on a new tab bar below the titlebar.

If you are also facing this irritating issue and want to restore system titlebar in Firefox in your Windows device, following steps will help you:

1. Right-click on the toolbar or tab bar in Firefox and select “Customize Toolbar…” option. It’ll open toolbar customize window.

2. Now look for “Title Bar” checkbox option present at the bottom-left corner of Customize window.

Just click on the “Title Bar” option to check or enable it and it’ll immediately add the system titlebar at the top of Firefox window.

The new titlebar will show all 3 buttons (Minimize, Maximize, Restore) at perfect position and you’ll also be able to read website titles again using the classic titlebar in Firefox.

PS: In future, if you decide to disable the system titlebar and restore Firefox own titlebar, disable the “Title Bar” option again in Firefox customize window.
