[Tip] Enable Dark Theme Mode in Microsoft’s Outlook.com Email Website

Microsoft’s Outlook.com is one of the most popular and widely used email services on Internet. Outlook is a webmail service from Microsoft which is also referred as Outlook on the web. Users can create their email ID on outlook.com and can start accessing their Inbox right from the website.

Outlook service has been renamed/rebranded many times in past. It was also known as Windows Live, MSN and Hotmail in past. Now it’s referred as Outlook or Microsoft Account (MSA).

If you have an email ID on Outlook.com (or msn.com, hotmail.com, live.com, etc), you might have noticed that the interface has been changed recently. Microsoft has started upgrading all Outlook.com accounts to the latest modern design interface which comes with several new features and UI elements.

The new interface or experience was available for testing since last year and interested users were able to try it using an opt-in toggle button present on the account page. Now the new interface has been applied to all outlook.com accounts. The opt-in toggle button has been removed and now there is no way to opt-out of the new modern interface.

If your Outlook.com account has not been upgraded to the new interface, wait for some time and it’ll be automatically upgraded by Microsoft.

Among several new features present in the new Outlook.com experience, one special feature grabbed attention of many users. This new feature is the built-in Dark Mode or Dark Theme which can be used to get rid of the White interface and bring dark or Black UI in Outlook.com account page.

Dark Mode has become very popular among websites and software programs. Now-a-days many software are providing dark theme modes to users. Dark Mode is very helpful while working in nights as it reduces eye strain and users feel comfortable while looking at their computer screens.

The good news is that now Outlook.com users can also enjoy new Dark Mode feature and can read and browse their emails in new dark theme mode.

If you are also using Outlook.com to manage your Inbox and emails and want to activate and enable Dark Theme Mode, following steps will help you:

  1. I get : ” Dark mode is not available in this browser “………………??? Im on IE11 in Win10 !

  2. ^^ Strange. Try with some other browser. May be some browsers are not supported at the moment.

  3. Hello VG, sorry for posting this in wrong article, but I need fast help with this. So I need to make a theme for Windows 8.1. But not a normal theme. I need to make a “professional” theme with UXThemePatcher. I need to change almost everything. I have to make it look like it isn’t Windows. I have to do the same thing as transformation packs do. Can you make me a guide (or even just a link to a guide) for UXThemePatcher?
    Thanks for reading this 🙂 Have a nice day 😉

  4. I don’t use it because it doesn’t support themes. That blue is irritating with the dark. Wish they support themes on dark mode soon.

  5. ^^ I’m sure themes will be supported in dark mode soon.

    @DokiDokiMagikku
    Themes are made by using software such as Resource Hacker, etc. UXThemePatcher is not used to create themes. Its used to patch Windows files to allow using 3rd party custom themes.
