Many people like dark themes and UI as they look nice and don’t hurt eyes specially at night time. Now-a-days many 3rd party software programs are coming with built-in dark theme modes such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Microsoft Edge, etc but there are still many software programs and apps which don’t support dark themes.

Similarly almost all websites on Internet use light themes with White or bright backgrounds and if you are browsing websites at night, it might hurt your eyes and impact your sleep. Many people install extensions or use CSS styles to force dark themes on websites.

Dark themes and UIs prevent eye strain. They are easier on eyes as text written on dark backgrounds using dark color scheme are easier to read.

With the help of today’s tip, you’ll be able to enjoy dark themes and color schemes on all websites and software programs. This trick utilizes a built-in feature of Windows 10 called “Color Filter“.

Color filter feature helps Windows 10 users seeing things on their computer screen more clearly. There are many color filters available to choose such as Inverted, Grayscale, Grayscale Inverted, Red-Green and Blue-Yellow.

We’ll use the Inverted color filter to apply and get dark theme UI on all websites and all software programs.

Before starting the tutorial, let’s take a look at some screenshots which show dark theme UI applied on some websites and software programs:

Windows 10 also provides a keyboard shortcut (hotkey) to quickly turn on and off color filters. The hotkey is WIN+CTRL+C. You can press these keys together anytime to enable or disable dark theme mode in Windows 10. No need to open Settings app and turn on/off color filter option. Just press the hotkey once to enable dark theme mode and press the hotkey again to turn off dark theme mode. Simple.

If the hotkey doesn’t work for you, make sure the “Allow the shortcut key to toggle filter on or off” checkbox is enabled on “Settings -> Ease of Access -> Color Filters” page.

  1. How to speed Microsoft Office 2010 and later version faster?

It is working slowly because of new and heavy UI and ribbons.

I don’t like new modern UI of Microsoft Office.

  2. Inverted not perfect

ALL colors are inverted, including images, so some sites are really messed up

  3. I love you VG. This trick made my day. Due to my job work I work on Excel sheets at night. Also I browse some sites at that time. Those white backgrounds and cells used to give headaches to me. Now using Windows+Control+C key I can switch dark mode on. Perfect solution to people like me.

  4. “That’s it. Now check any website or software program and you’ll get dark theme UI everywhere.” – not true, not everywhere. My Foobar2000 has black UI, after this trick is… white 😀
So… the trick only works with programs that natively have a white UI. Black UI will turn to the white side = useless.

Thank you so much. For the software which do not provide dark theme, this is the best way to get dark theme support.
