When the new Homepage is removed, the “System” tab or section becomes the main active section in Settings app by default just like the older versions of Windows 11 operating system.

The new Homepage feature was first added to Settings app in Windows 11 Insider Preview build 23493 which was released on June 29, 2023 to testers on Dev channel. After few months, Microsoft rolled out Settings homepage via Windows 11 Insider Preview build 25967 released on October 05, 2023 to testers on Canary channel.

Now Microsoft has enabled the new Homepage on Windows 11 Settings app for public. Recently released Windows 11 2023 Update, version 23H2 comes with new Settings homepage feature enabled by default. This new Homepage on Settings app has been developed to help users in accessing important and frequently used pages quickly and easily. It contains interactive cards to display recommended settings such as devices, personalization, etc. It also helps users in managing their Microsoft Account by showing an overview of all apps and services.

PS: The new Homepage on Settings app is only available on Windows 11 Home and Pro editions. It is not available on Windows 11 devices managed by companies.

Some Windows 11 users many not like the addition of this extra section or tab added to main Settings app. When Settings app didn’t contain this Homepage section, users could access the main System section or tab directly. Now users are required an extra mouse click to switch to System tab.

We’ll use the classic “Settings Page Visibility” policy and Registry tweak to hide or remove Homepage section from Windows 11 Settings app. If you are an old reader of this site, you might remember we shared this trick long time back in following guide:

[Tip] Hide or Remove Pages and Sections in Windows 10 Settings App

Microsoft officially provides this policy and Registry tweak to allow Administrators hiding or removing certain sections or pages from Settings app and we’ll use the same trick to disable or remove new Homepage from Settings app in newer versions of Windows 11.

Following methods will help you in getting rid of Homepage section from Windows 11 Settings app:

METHOD 1: Remove Settings Homepage Using Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)

STEP 1: Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type gpedit.msc and press Enter. It’ll open Group Policy Editor.

STEP 2: Now go to following key:

To remove Settings Homepage for all users:

Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Control Panel

To remove Settings Homepage for current user only:

User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Control Panel

STEP 3: In right-side pane, look for “Settings Page Visibility” option. This option will be used to hide homepage from Settings app.

Apply changes and now open Settings app. The homepage will be removed successfully and you’ll see System section as default on the Settings app.

PS: In future, if you want to restore Homepage in Settings app, double-click on “Settings Page Visibility” option and set it to Not Configured.

METHOD 2: Remove Settings Homepage Using Registry Editor (regedit.exe)

If you are using Home edition of Windows 11, you’ll not be able to run gpedit.msc command because this edition doesn’t come with Group Policy Editor. If you can’t use or don’t want to use Group Policy Editor, you can take help of Registry Editor for the same task. Just follow these simple steps:

STEP 1: Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type regedit and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

STEP 2: Now go to following key:

To remove Settings Homepage for all users:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

To remove Settings Homepage for current user only:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

STEP 3: In right-side pane, create a new string SettingsPageVisibility and set its value to as following:

hide:home
