Enable Classic Theme and UI in Windows 11 Using AskVG Theme

If you are using Windows 11 operating system and missing classic theme and UI in your device, this article will help you in enabling or restoring classic look-n-feel in Windows 11 which you used to get in older versions of Windows such as Windows 7, Windows 8, etc.

Windows 11 comes with modern look-n-feel and features smooth and rounded corners around UI elements such as buttons, checkbox, scrollbar, etc. The scroll bar in Windows 11 has also become very minimal and shows as a thin vertical line.

Many people including me don’t like the new refreshing or modern UI in Windows 11 and always wanted to restore classic theme and this article will assist all Windows 11 users in bringing back the classic theme again in their computer system.

If you look carefully in the above screenshot, you’ll notice that the classic titlebar buttons, full scroll bars and details headers have been restored in Windows 11.

The above image clearly displays a comparison or difference between default Windows 11 UI elements and classic UI elements changed by the theme. You can see the UI elements in classic theme become squared in shape and more visible compared to default elements.

We have created a simple .theme file which utilizes the built-in Aero Lite theme to provide classic look-n-feel in Windows 11.

STEP 1: Download Classic Theme for Windows 11

Download the classic theme for Windows 11 from following link:

After downloading the ZIP file, extract it using 7-Zip or other file archive utilities and you’ll get the main AskVG_Classic_Theme_for_Windows_11.theme file.

STEP 2: Copy Classic Theme Using File Explorer

Now copy the .theme file to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes folder using File Explorer. Windows will ask for confirmation, accept it.

STEP 3: Apply Classic Theme Using Desktop Personalization

Now you can apply the theme by double-clicking on it. If this method doesn’t work, right-click on Desktop and select Personalize option. Now go to Themes section and look for AskVG classic theme present under themes list.

Click on the theme and you’ll get the classic theme and UI enabled in Windows 11.

PS: In future if you want to restore default Windows 11 theme, apply the default theme using Personalization window again.
