[Windows 10 Tip] Resize Multiple Images in Bulk Using Right-Click Menu

This article features a free and official powertoy for Windows 10 operating system which allows users to resize multiple images in bulk using a simple right-click.

Many times we need to resize one or many images. For example we took a screenshot and now we need to resize it to send it via email or upload on a website. In such situation, we have to use image editing software such as MS Paint, Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, etc to resize images. Opening images and changing their size (dimensions) using a software program requires lots of time and hard work.

There are many image resizing software available on Internet which can be used to resize images in bulk. These software allow users to batch resize images but most of the times these software add their watermark on images or ask to purchase.

Now there is no need to use 3rd party software utilities or image editing software to resize images. Microsoft has released an official powertoy for Windows 10 operating system which allows users to resize multiple pictures quickly and easily without any hard work.

The new “Image Resizer” powertoy can be downloaded and installed in Windows 10. You can download it using following article:

Image Resizer works as a shell extension for File Explorer (Windows Explorer). After installation, the powertoy adds a new option to image files right-click menu (context menu). You can right-click on any image file and you’ll get a new option “Resize pictures“.

Click on the option in right-click menu and it’ll launch Image Resizer program window.

Now you can select a predefined size such as Small, Medium, Large or Phone or you can define a custom size in pixels.

Click on “Resize” button and it’ll immediately resize the picture. The new picture will be stored in the same folder with same picture name appended by new size name.

You can also select multiple image files and then click on “Resize pictures” option in context menu. It’ll resize all selected images in bulk.

Image Resizer Usage Tips:

While selecting custom image size, you can also define whether the image should fill, fit or stretch to the full pixel size.

Also if you don’t want to store resized images as extra copy, you can select “Resize the original pictures (don’t create copies)” option and it’ll replace original image with new resized image in the folder.

Image Resizer also allows users to customize some settings. Click on “Settings” link given at the bottom-left corner of the window and it’ll open Image Resizer settings window.

Now you can modify existing image resize options. You can also delete unwanted presets or create a new customized image size preset which will show in main Image Resizer window to select.

You can also change image encoding parameters.

Image Resizer also allows users to customize resized image (output) file name. You can set desired file name with the help of given parameters. You can also append original date modified to the output file name.
