[Tip] How to Send Text Messages (SMS) From Your Computer

Did you ever want to send/receive text messages i.e. SMS from your computer? In good ol’ days of keypad mobile phones, we used to search for websites and software to send SMS from PC. In fact many mobile phone companies used to provide a PC suite type software bundled with their mobile phone which allowed users to connect their mobile phone with PC and then send text messages from their PC.

Sending text messages from computer is a little bit easier and more comfortable than mobile phone as people can type more easily on their PC keyboard compared to small touch keyboard present virtually in their smartphones.

If you are a Google Android mobile phone user, here is a good news for you. Google has released a new version of their official “Android Messages” app which allows users to send text messages right from their computers.

NOTE: It might be possible that the option “Messages for web” is not available in the menu in your mobile phone. That’s absolutely OK as Google is rolling out this feature in phases. You don’t need to do anything except wait. Wait for a few days or hours until Google activates the feature for your mobile phone. It’s a server-side application feature and it only becomes available when Google activates it for your mobile phone. Just wait for some time and it’ll be added very soon in your smartphone.

When you select “Messages for web” option from main menu, it’ll ask to open https://messages.android.com webpage on your computer.

Now your computer has been paired/linked with your mobile phone and the webpage opened in your computer will work like a mirror image of Android Messages app installed in your mobile phone.

Now you can start sending/receiving text messages through your computer. You can also delete messages from your mobile phone using your computer. It also allows changing settings such as enabling dark mode, high-contrast mode, enable/disable notifications, etc.

PS: If you want to disable “Messages for web” feature, just sign out either using the webpage opened in your computer or using the Android Messages app in your mobile phone.
