[Tip] How to Enable and Use New Colorways Themes in Firefox

Newer versions of Mozilla Firefox web browser (94.0 and later) come with 6 brand new colorful themes called as “Colorways“. These seasonal themes come built-in or bundled with the browser and you don’t need to download or install them manually.

Following are the 6 new Colorways themes present in Firefox:

  • Abstract
  • Cheers
  • Elemental
  • Foto
  • Graffiti
  • Lush

Each theme comes in following 3 variants: Bold, Soft and Balanced. So technically you get 6×3=18 new Colorways themes in Firefox 94 and later versions.

The “Bold” variant of each theme has been developed for dark UI lovers. This variant will provide Black or dark gray color scheme in Firefox UI.

The “Soft” variant has been developed for light theme lovers which don’t like dark interface.

The “Balanced” variant is the mixture of both Bold and Soft variants. So if you want a mix of dark and light color scheme, you’ll like the Balanced version of each theme.

How to Apply Colorways Themes After Installing or Upgrading?

By default, when you install or upgrade to new version of Firefox, the browser asks the user to select and apply new Colorways theme at first run. When you launch Firefox for the first time after upgrade or clean install, Firefox displays following setup wizard asking you to select or skip new Colorways theme:

  1. I have set the theme to Graffiti Bold since the first time it came out. On the following update, I forgot which version, in addition to the existing 18 (6×3) colorways themes, there are 6 (6×1) new pastel-like colorways themes. But now in version 98.0b4, those 18 colorways themes mentioned above are missing, leaving just the 6 pastel-like ones.

Although it’s gone, the Graffiti Bold themes I previously set is still in effect. It’s just that it’s not available in the “Add-ons and themes” option anymore. So I’m afraid if I disable this theme or enable other theme, I probably won’t be able to go back to this Graffiti theme again.

I’m aware that these colorways themes are available for a limited time, but is there a way to bring back the 18 themes you mentioned above? Through the about:config page perhaps?

  2. ^^ Please check out following official announcement about these themes removal:

  3. I didn’t ask for colourways , don’t like it and can’t seem to return to default theme.
