[Tip] Enable New Boot Screen Animation in Windows 11

This article contains a special Registry tweak which will assist you in enabling a hidden secret boot screen animation in Windows 11 operating system.

When you start or boot a Windows 11 device, the default boot screen (also known as startup screen) is displayed containing the animated circle of dots. Did you know Windows 11 also comes with an alternate boot screen which shows a new animation called progressive ring animation?

Microsoft added this new secret boot screen animation in an older build of Windows 11 (build 22449) and all later builds of Windows 11 including public stable versions of Windows 11 come with this secret boot animation bundled.

By default the new boot animation is disabled and you see the classic circle of dots animation on Windows 11 boot screen but there is a Registry tweak available to activate and enable the new progressive ring animation on Windows 11 boot screen.

We have created an animated image for your viewing pleasure which shows both boot screen animations live in action so that you can understand the difference:

If you also want to test the new boot screen animation in Windows 11, following steps will help you:

1. Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box. Now type regedit and press Enter. It’ll open Registry Editor.

2. Now go to following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control

3. Right-click on Control key and select New -> Key option. It’ll create a new key under Control key.

Set the new key name as BootControl

4. Select BootControl key and in right-side pane, right-click on empty area and select New -> DWORD (32-bit) Value option.

Set the name of DWORD as BootProgressAnimation and change its value as 1 to enable new boot screen animation.

5. Restart your computer to apply changes.

Upon restart, you’ll see the new secret boot screen animation activated in your Windows 11 computer.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore default boot screen animation, either delete the BootControl key or change value of BootProgressAnimation to 0 in Registry Editor.

  1. Wow
    A small step for man,
But a giant step for mankind
    /s
Is this what win11 is realy all about
It will take a few years for me to install win11, if ever
I’ve got to at least 2025 to stay on win10, which IMHO is quite polished now
    Ps
    Keep up the good work

  2. ^^ It used to work in Windows 10 Insider Preview builds. I have not tested on stable build. Check it yourself. It might work.

Future updates will improve Windows 11 a lot including addition of missing functionality.
