[Tip] Enable Hidden Secret “Focus Mode” Feature in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge

UPDATE: This tutorial to enable Focus Mode feature works in both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge web browsers.

The new versions of Google Chrome web browser come with a hidden secret feature called “Focus Mode“. This new feature is not enabled by default and interested users need to activate and enable it manually.

Focus Mode feature allows users to launch a tab to a new Chrome window which doesn’t show any toolbar, address bar, tab bar, etc. It only contains the titlebar obviously as shown in following screenshot:

As you can see it allows users to focus only on the web page, that’s why it’s called Focus Mode.

When you launch a tab in Focus Mode, the Taskbar shows website’s favicon in place of Google Chrome icon for the focused window.

In Focus Mode, the titlebar allows to perform some operations on the tab by clicking on the 3-dots menu. You can copy the URL, zoom webpage, print, find, cast, etc. If you want to exit from the Focus Mode and restore the tab in main Chrome window, just click on “Open in Chrome” option present in 3-dots menu and it’ll attach the tab to Chrome window again.

We told you about this feature in UPDATE 110 in our exclusive Chrome Canary Updates topic when this feature was under development and testing.

If you also want to enable and test Focus Mode feature in Google Chrome, following steps will help you:

  1. One GREAT feature of Ask VG is that there are no “STOCK PHOTOS.” Many other computer help sites, esp. one called “How to Geek” are full of them, and they just take up space and waste bandwidth and are in every way annoying and stupid. Why do we need to see a HUGE color photo of a hand pushing a button on a generic keyboard or of a smiling man and woman looking at a monitor. Mr. Gupta, thank you for plainly being aware of this and not having such.
To say nothing of the fact that your advice and suggestions are invariably top notch.

  2. Hello sir, I request to post some new and updated information about Windows 10 May Update 2019, I recently installed Home edition and I see many new changes, here are some new changes
    1. Windows updates advanced options changed(but old method to disable automatic update still works).
    2. In Notepad, when I click “save as” button, then 2 old options and 3 new options of text encoding appearing, ANSI(which only support English) and popular UTF-8(support multiple typing languages) are old, but new is “UTF-8 with BOM, UTF-16 LE and UTF-16 with BE”
    3. Improved startup.
    4. Windows Sandbox(not available in Home Edition).

Thanks for your nice words. I always try to use small sized images and minimal site design so that the site can load faster even on slower Internet connections.
