Now Google is doing a similar thing! The company has started rolling out new kind of promotional ads in Gmail Inbox. These ads look like a normal email containing email title, description and sender name.

Following screenshot shows a promotional Inbox ad displaying inside the email messages list in Gmail:

As you can see, the ad UI is quite similar to general email UI and it’s hard to distinguish between ad and a normal email. The promotional email contains an “Ad” tag to represent its type.

Many Gmail users may find the ads inside their Inbox irritating and problematic. Fortunately, Google has provided ways to disable or remove these ads from Gmail.

If you also want to remove these Inbox ads from your Gmail account, following steps will help you:

METHOD 1: Turn Off Smart Features and Personalization in Gmail

You can disable “Smart Features and Personalization” option in your Gmail account to get rid of all promotional emails, ads, categories and unwanted features at once. Once you disable smart features and personalization, it’ll turn off following features in your Gmail account:

  • Extracting event details to create calendar entries

You can disable smart features and personalization option using following steps:

1. Open your Gmail account and click on Settings icon (cog wheel icon) present at the top-right side on Gmail page.

2. It’ll open Quick Settings flyout or sidebar at the right-side pane. Click on “See all settings” button given at the top. It’ll open Gmail Settings page.

3. Now on General tab, scroll down and look for following option:

Smart features and personalization

That’s it. It’ll turn off all unnecessary smart features in your Gmail account along with extra unwanted promotions and advertisement emails.

PS: In future, if you decide to restore smart features in your Gmail account, you can again turn on Smart Features and Personalization option in Gmail Settings.

METHOD 2: Disable Categories and Promo Emails in Gmail
