[Fix Twitter in Firefox] A Network Protocol Violation that cannot be Repaired Error Message

Since a few days, I was facing this annoying problem in Mozilla Firefox web browser. Whenever I tried to open Twitter website (main homepage, user profile pages, tweets, etc), I received following error message:

[Problem loading page]

Oops.

The site at https://twitter.com/ has experienced a network protocol violation that cannot be repaired.

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because an error in the data transmission was detected.

Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

No page at Twitter website was opening in Firefox web browser. I was using the latest stable version of Firefox browser.

Twitter website was working fine in other web browsers. It was only Firefox which was unable to load Twitter properly.

The only workaround which was working to resolve the issue temporarily, was hard refresh. Whenever the error message was displayed on Twitter website pages, I pressed Ctrl+F5 keys together to reload the page from scratch without using browser cache and it successfully opened the page.

But this workaround was temporary and I had to reload every Twitter page using Ctrl+F5 hotkey every time.

I knew that clearing cache and cookies could fix the issue but I didn’t want to do that as it would have signed me out from Twitter.

Recently a few readers also reported the same issue to me. All were unable to access Twitter website in Firefox browser.

After some research, I found that it’s a known issue and Mozilla is already aware of it.

There is a permanent working solution to fix the issue and make Twitter website working in Firefox browser.

If you are also facing this issue and want to fix it, following steps will help you:

1. Open Mozilla Firefox web browser and type about:serviceworkers in address bar and press Enter.

2. Press F3 or Ctrl+F keys to launch find box.

3. Type twitter in the search box and it’ll let you go to Origin: https://twitter.com entry.

4. Click on Unregister button given below the entry.

That’s it. Now open Twitter website and it’ll work absolutely fine in Firefox.

The bug is currently being investigated at official Bugzilla forum. Thanks winaero

  1. This solution fixed the problem of Twitter not allowing me in. The control+f opened the find box, just as the writer said it would.

    Thank you!

  2. this DOESN’T work (u have to UNREGISTER every time u open firefox). just go to settings and DELETE (only) twitter cache and cookies and login again. ANOTHER bug: after updating firefox (ver 104.0.2) text prediction of on-screen keyboard doesn’t work [only works in address bar and search bar].
