We can just launch voice assistant tool and start speaking and our smartphone will automatically type the words.

To use the voice recognition or voice search feature in our smartphone, we need to tap on the “Mic” icon or button present on the keyboard. Now let’s talk about the annoying issue! When you press the microphone icon to access voice recognition or voice typing feature in your smartphone, a very loud “Ding” or “Beep” feedback sound is played. In fact, when you exit from the voice typing, a double “Ding Ding” sound is played again. It might be very irritating for several users if they are using their smartphones at night or in public places. Everyone will immediately notice that you have initiated voice typing feature in your smartphone and you’ll grab everyone’s attention unintentionally.

If you also find the ding sound problematic in your Android smartphone and want to disable or turn it off, we have some solutions to permanently deactivate the ding sound or mute/silence the ding sound temporarily while using voice typing feature in your smartphone.

Following methods will help you in stopping the ding sound coming from your Android smartphone while using Google voice typing feature:

SOLUTION 1: Put Your Smartphone on Silent or DND Mode or Turn Off Media Volume

This is the best and quickest solution to mute or silence ding sound while using Google Voice typing feature in your smartphone. Actually Google voice recognition plays the ding sound using media stream channel. In some smartphones, it uses the ringer/notification stream channel to play ding sound. So you can either put your smartphone on silent/Do Not Disturb mode or use the volume slider button given on the sides of your smartphone to lower or completely turn off media volume.

Once you turn on silent/DND mode or reduce media volume, press the microphone icon to access voice typing feature and you’ll not hear any ding or beep sound.

SOLUTION 2: Disable Mic Open and Close Sounds Using Google Assistant Accessibility Settings

You can also permanently disable the ding sound by turning off mic open and close notifications options present on Google Assistant’s accessibility settings page. Following steps will help you in turning off mic on/off notification sounds in your Android smartphone:

STEP 4: Now you’ll see 2 toggle options to enable or disable notifications for mic open and close events. Disable both toggle options and it should disable the annoying ding sounds which are played when you on or off Google voice typing feature in your smartphone.

I noticed that some smartphone models support the above mentioned solution and some don’t.

SOLUTION 3: Turn Off Ding Sound Using Samsung Sound Assistant App

This method can be used in Samsung smartphones only as we are going to use an exclusive and official app called “GoodLock” which is provided by Samsung to all Galaxy smartphone users. This app allows users to customize and tweak UI and functionality of their Samsung smartphone. We’ll use “Sound Assistant” module of GoodLock app to completely disable any sound coming from Google Voice Typing feature.

STEP 1: Download and install GoodLock app using Galaxy Store in your Samsung smartphone.

STEP 2: Open GoodLock app and tap on “Life up” tab or section. Scroll down and tap on “Download” button given next to Sound Assistant option. It’ll download and add Sound Assistant tool at the top of “Life up” section.

STEP 5: Now you can decrease and completely turn off the app volume to 0 using the volume slider given on individual app volumes page.
