Windows 8.1 November Update Rollup (aka Update 3) Now Available for Download

Many people think that Microsoft will keep releasing update packs for Windows 8.1 similar to Update 1 but unfortunately they are wrong. We have already told you in past that Microsoft will no longer release such kind of major update packs such as update 2, update 3, etc for Windows 8.1 operating system. Instead they’ll release smaller update packs or update rollups as a part of their Patch Tuesday program for Windows 8.1.

Following the decision, Microsoft released August Update for Windows 8.1 which was considered as Update 2.

  1. kb3000850 trashed my computer. After the update I couldn’t start or reinstall my Webroot antivirus, so I tried to do a system restore. After that, the computer wouldn’t boot and I had to refresh Windows and spend several hours restoring my settings and some of my software. DO NOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. My computer is a Dell XPS 8500 desktop running Windows 8.1.

  2. Yeah it is a trashy update! I tried it twice with the other updates that came with it. The other updates installed flawlessly. But when I did the KB30000850 it wouldn’t reboot out of restart. My screen just kept blinking in cycles. I tried it twice and had to do system restore twice. Luckily restore worked for me. I won’t try again to push my luck, its a lousy trashy update! I don’t recommend it!!

  3. Known issue : (support.microsoft.com/kb/3000850)

You receive a 0x800f0922 or 0x80070005 error message when you try to install this update

    Symptoms

Assume that you have either of the following configurations:

You have a Windows Server 2012 R2 server that is running on hardware that has UEFI that has Secure Boot enabled.

You have a Windows Server 2012 R2-based Hyper-V host that is running, and you are running a Generation 2 virtual machine guest that uses UEFI firmware support and that has the Secure Boot option enabled. Additionally, the guest virtual machine is running Windows Server 2012 R2.

In these configurations, update 3000850 may not be installed, and you receive a 0x800f0922 or 0x80070005 error message.

    Solution :

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

    1. Install the updated servicing stack update 2975061, and then restart the computer.
    2. Try to reinstall this update.

  4. Will not install on the W8.1 machine here.
Had prev installed the earlier update, so do know that’s not the problem.
It just says “not installed,” and gives no reason.

  5. From reading comments above, I consider to be LUCKY the KB30000850 refused to install.
Just hope the other one, which did install, won’t wreck my computer.

  6. Update broke my installation of Windows… Audio service won’t start, shutting down/restarting rarely works and Windows Explorer is consistently freezing… Currently doing a system restore, I would stay away from this update…

  7. Stay away from NOV update… It locked me out of my own laptop after failing to install. (HAD AVAST)… After that the laptop wont recognize my Pin and I wasnt sure of my PWD…. Never had any problems with Avast before this problem… After Uninstalling Avast and doing trick hacks modyfying utilmanager (left lower icon on log screen) to become MSCONFIG , I could LOG and install the failed update… I could fix some issues without reinstalling WIN…

RESTART ,Shutdown and . Win Explorer andControl Panel freezes were fixed….

**MY KINIVO USB dongle is not working or being detected (it does not turn ON -blue light)… Bluetooth does not show up anywhere… LOST BLUETOOTH functionality and have not recovered it…

    – I am now trying some registry changed and will Restart soon

  8. Avast has fixed the problem,i’m running Avast Premier without any problem. The update is great.

  9. Sorry if this isn’t really the best place to ask, but how would I get this to automatically install if I was doing a clean install of Win 8.1 /w Update 1 via USB?

  10. ^^ You can try following 3rd party tool:

    winreducer.net/download.html

    Also check following:

    technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824947.aspx

  11. I wanted to ask you guys something, do you think I should upgrade to Windows 8.1 or should I stick to Windows 7?

    Thanks in Advance!

  12. ^^ That depends upon user’s preferences. If you want to try a new OS with many new features and differences, then you can upgrade to Windows 8.1. If you are not ready to try something new, stick with Windows 7. There are many UI changes between Windows 7 and 8.1.

  13. Thanks VG, I’m a long time lurker (RSS reader) of your site, and glad to see that when I do ask, you are straight in there with helpful info. 😀
I’m gonna give WinReducer when I am ready to re-install Win 8.1.

  14. Message:

    Hey VG !!

    Thanks,

  15. THANKS VG,
I am very Happy. Because I like to keep my Windows PC Up to Date.
& This Update 3 is Functioning V. Well in my Windows 8.1 PC.

HAVING NO PROBLEM WHILE USING MY WINDOWS 8.1 PC.

  16. now Im confused for update KB3000850 after read your comments now you tell me that I will have to install this update or no because I have downloaded it but not install yet please tell me seriously that I wil install this or not this will give benefits or defects it has advantages or disadvantage….
Please help me with to give your reply/answer.

  17. Each time Windows 8.1 after going into sleep mode and awakened, or is restarted, the system printer reverts to the original printer (network printer) and doesn’t remember any change I made (e.g. a selection of a pdf virtual printer set as default).

    How can this be corrected?

  18. oh yeah, and if your wondering why it has Update 2 as well, is because Update 2 caused a multitude of problems for Windows 8.1 users (fonts, BSoD, etc.), so Microsoft included a “fixed” update 2 in Update 3.

See, so we ARE getting Service Packs, just with a different name 🙂

  19. none of these will install on my windows 8.1 Asus notebook..kb3000850 won’t even download…it keeps installing for hours …running and running
and running and running and run…………………………………………….

  20. Dear mister Microsoft,

This is a poorly tested update. It does not work. I almost spend an hour of my spare free time solving the “Windows cannot start up” message on my screen after trying to install this. I have a 700 euro laptop and its well configurated and everything was working just fine.

So dear mister Microsoft, i beg you: Stop the trashy updates!!

  21. â—¦Windows8.1-KB3000850.msu
    â—¦Windows8.1-KB3003057.msu
    â—¦Windows8.1-KB3014442.msu

What is the order of install of the above updates?

  22. On my Acer ES1-512, a $200.00 Notebook it showed up in windows updates all alone. During the download, I noticed the MB’s decreasing from 775.8mb, down to 774.0mb then to 762.8mb, this reminded me of SP’s on Windows 7… That’s why I came here to look up KB3000850… No problems installing or otherwise, sorry some are having problems with it. My concern is that 2 days ago, I ran sfc /scannow in elevated CMD Prompt. Windows found corrupt system files it could not repair, when the APP tried to download the same files from The Store, the reply said that the The Store files were also Corrupted… and could not fix them….. I did not see in KB3000850 where MS fixed any of these problems…. IMHO, Microsoft should check the files in the APP Store for Corruption…!

  23. I formatted HDD and installed a fresh Windows of this version.
But after installing, when I check for update, it stuck at this for hours.
Can someone help me to fix it!
