[Tip] Make IDM Extension Working in Mozilla Firefox 91 and Later Versions

If you are facing issues while using IDM (Internet Download Manager) program with Mozilla Firefox newer versions, this article will help you in integrating IDM with Firefox and make it working again.

Many readers know that I use the popular 3rd party download management software “Internet Download Manager (IDM)” in my computer systems to download files from Internet. IDM automatically integrates itself in all popular web browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, the new Microsoft Edge and the default Internet Explorer web browser present in Windows operating system.

I was using IDM without any problem in Firefox browser since long time but after updating Firefox to version 91.0, IDM started giving issues.

I noticed that suddenly all files started downloading using the built-in or default download manager of Firefox and IDM stopped working completely.

I tried to open IDM and it was working fine. When I checked IDM options window, it was showing Mozilla Firefox browser listed and enabled under “Capture downloads from the following browsers” section.

Also the “Use advanced browser integration” option was enabled. So according to the IDM settings, it was properly integrated with Firefox and other browsers.

Then I checked installed add-ons or extensions using Add-ons Manager page in Firefox and IDM extension was not present in the installed extensions list.

So basically IDM extension was automatically removed by Firefox after upgrading to version 91, that’s why it was no longer working in Firefox.

Actually Internet Download Manager program installs its extension called “IDM Integration Module” in all web browsers to integrate itself. The extension allows web browsers to use IDM to download files from websites instead of using their built-in download manager feature.

It seems IDM extension was not compatible with Firefox newer versions i.e. version 91 and later, that’s why the extension was automatically deleted by Firefox.

After some troubleshooting, I was able to successfully integrate IDM again in Firefox and now it’s working fine in my Firefox browser.

If you also use IDM and want to fix it’s integration issue with Firefox browser, following method will help you:

You’ll need to download and install IDM extension manually from official Firefox Add-ons website.

Following is the download link of official IDM extension for Firefox:

Once you open the webpage, click on “Add to Firefox” button. Firefox will ask for permission, click on “Add” button.

That’s it. It’ll immediately install and add required IDM extension in Firefox.

Now try to download any file and you’ll see that IDM has started working again in Firefox web browser.
