[Tip] Enable Split Screen Mode in Microsoft Edge to Open Tabs Side-by-Side in Same Window

This article will help you in enabling a hidden secret “Split Screen” or “Split Window” mode in Microsoft Edge web browser which will allow you to open 2 different websites side-by-side in a single tab. With the help of this new feature, you’ll be able to browse different websites in the same Microsoft Edge window simultaneously without any need of leaving a website.

Following screenshot shows Split Screen mode live in action in Microsoft Edge web browser:

As you can see in the above screenshot, we have opened 2 webpages in the same window or tab using Split Screen feature in Microsoft Edge.

Split Screen mode is a new feature introduced in Microsoft Edge which will be available to all by default in upcoming versions of the web browser. At the moment, this feature is hidden and can be activated and enabled manually by advanced users.

Interested users can enable the feature right now by modifying a hidden secret preference/flag using Microsoft Edge’s advanced configuration or “Flags” page.

If you also want to enable and use Split Screen mode in Microsoft Edge web browser, following steps will help you:

1. Open Microsoft Edge web browser and type edge://flags/ in address bar and press Enter. It’ll open the advanced configuration page.

2. Now type split in the “Search flags” box.

It’ll directly go to following option:

3. To activate and enable the new Split Screen feature in Edge, select Enabled from the drop-down box for the above mentioned option.

4. Microsoft Edge will ask you to restart the browser. Click on “Restart” button to restart Microsoft Edge.

5. After restarting Edge, you’ll see a new button for “Split Screen” mode added to the toolbar near the address bar.

You can click on the Split Screen button and it’ll allow you to open new tab or bring existing tab to Split Screen mode in the same Edge window.

To open a website in any split screen, select the website section to activate it and type the desired URL in the address bar.

PS: If you decide to disable Split Screen feature in Edge, select “Default” option from the drop-down box for above mentioned option and restart the browser.
