How to Bookmark All Tabs in Mozilla Firefox? Option in Tab Context Menu Missing

If you have upgraded or installed the newer versions of Mozilla Firefox web browser, you might have noticed that the previous option “Bookmark All Tabs” in tabs context menu is no longer available.

In older versions of Mozilla Firefox web browser, if a user opened multiple tabs and he wanted to bookmark all tabs, he just needed to simply right-click on a tab and select “Bookmark All Tabs” option from the context menu. It allowed the user to create a new bookmark folder containing all websites bookmarks.

Now in Firefox 64 and later versions, Mozilla has removed “Bookmark All Tabs” option from right-click menu on tabs. Now if you right-click on a tab, you get only “Bookmark Tab” option to bookmark current tab. The previous “Bookmark All Tabs” option is missing in the context menu.

I have received emails from several readers regarding this issue, so I decided to create this tutorial to help Firefox users in bookmarking all tabs opened.

The sad thing is that we can’t restore the “Bookmark All Tabs” option in tab context menu but we have other new ways to bookmark all tabs in Firefox web browser.

Why did Mozilla Remove “Bookmark All Tabs” Option from Tab Context Menu?

Actually “Bookmark All Tabs” option was removed due to introduction of Multiple Tabs Selection functionality. Newer versions of Mozilla Firefox come with this new feature which allows users to select multiple or all tabs. Once multiple tabs are selected, users can perform various actions on selected tabs such as reload, mute, pin, bookmark, close or send tabs.

Since users can now select multiple tabs, Mozilla decided to remove “Bookmark All Tabs” option from tabs context menu as it was considered as duplicate or unnecessary.

How to Bookmark All Tabs or Multiple Tabs in Mozilla Firefox Now?

Many readers know that I use Firefox Nightly build as my primary web browser and I also noticed this change when Firefox stable version was under development and testing. I was using the new method or workaround to bookmark all or multiple tabs since many days and now I’m going to share it with you all.

There are 2 methods to bookmark all tabs in Firefox:

METHOD 1:

The simplest and best method! Once you have opened all tabs to bookmark, just press Ctrl+Shift+D keys together and Firefox will show you the dialog box to bookmark all tabs. Simple, isn’t it?

PS: To bookmark current tab, you can press Ctrl+D keys together.

METHOD 2:

If you don’t want to use hotkey/keyboard shortcut, do as following:

1. Open all tabs to bookmark and right-click on a tab and select “Select All Tabs” option. It’ll select all tabs.

2. Now right-click again on a tab and click on “Bookmark Tabs” option.

That’s it. Firefox will show you the dialog box to bookmark all tabs.

So now you have to right-click on tabs 2 times to bookmark all tabs. Previously, you needed a single right-click to bookmark all tabs.

But this new method has an extra benefit over previous method. Now you can select desired tabs by pressing and holding CTRL key and left-clicking on desired tabs and then right-click on a tab and select “Bookmark Tabs” option. It’ll bookmark only selected tabs not all opened tabs.

So now you can bookmark a few selected tabs as well which was not possible in past.

  1. other way is select the first tab and holding shift select the last one, then, right click save to bookmarks

  2. I have an older Mac running Snow Leopard and because of that, use Firefox version 48. I tend to work with many open tabs and several windows open also. I suspect this slows my computer and have tried several times to use the Save Tabs as Bookmark option. The problem is when I later go into the folder and open some of the bookmarked tabs, the page is no longer available. This defeats the purpose of what I am trying to do….speed up my computer and have tab info available to me at a later time. Suggestions?

  3. ^^ How are you saving tabs as bookmarks? Also right-click on a bookmark and select properties and check whether it contains the page URL.

  4. What if I have 100+ windows open, many of them have multiple tabs open, and I want to bookmark ALL the tabs in all the windows into a folder in my bookmarks?

  5. ^^ I’m afraid you’ll need to perform above mentioned steps for all windows. May be an extension can help you.
