Here is excellent news for people who are eagerly waiting for Microsoft's upcoming OS Windows 7 final release. "GeekSmack" website has confirmed with a source close to Microsoft that Windows 7 is set to RTM on July 13th.
Windows 7 RTM build will be chosen over the next few days and will be officially signed off on July 13th, 2009, the same day as the WPC09 (Worldwide Partner Conference) will take place in New Orleans.
Microsoft is still in the process of testing and choosing from the RTM candidate builds as they need to ensure that all show-stopper bugs present in the OS have been eradicated to ensure as much of a smooth, bug-free release as possible.
TechNet, MSDN, and other partner connections will be getting their hands on the RTM build shortly after, if not on the same day.
Note that the general availability is scheduled to launch on October 22nd.

Should I go for RTM or wait for retail..? I suppose they are both the same...
Prax
Hey VG, I remember you were a fan of TuneUp utilities. I was wonderin' if you could suggest an equivalent alternative as it is incompatible with Win 7.
Bango
They are the same...
Is just that RTM release is on the 13th July while the retail is 22 Oct....
Why wait when you can get the final product earlier???
VG
RTM is the final version. It would be available to subscribers this month and to public on October 22.
@Prax
You can run it in compatibility mode.

I think you shouldn't be so worried. most of the updates between such builds are minor and if you've got the 7100 build installed you will receive those updates via windows update. The most important thing now is for vendors to update their software. maybe an RTM build will put them to work.

It's July 13, and it appears that there has been no release to MSDN subscribers yet. Another repeat of "The lamest thing since Microsoft Bob"?
